Picked up a tenor sax today! Just ordered a bass off the internet recently but it wont be ready til december so I figured I had better get a new toy to keep me going!

And now some awful pics! :

Sorry for the silly novel camera fx :pac: Never used a webcam to take pics before...

Anyways! It's a YTS 275. 1099 in paul ryans and he threw in a few bits and bobs. Was going to get a cheaper jupiter model but they were out of stock and i just couldn't wait any longer so I decided today to shell out the extra 300 :D

So big nd shiny. Only one problem tho. It's very loud (I'm told...) - hence me having the time to take pics... Any way to make her quieten down somewhat for practice at home?

I LOVE the sound of a tenor sax. I remember picking up a friend's tenor to try it, and could n't get a note out of it. :o

Great to see a different instrument being talked about here for a change.

    Good luck with it. :)

I did a bit of research and most of those mutes aren't very effective for sax. This is because sound is coming from each of the holes as opposed to just the bell, as is the case with say trumpets or most brass instruments. There is a thing called a sax bag but they look very silly so no : http://www.bill-lewington.com/silentsax.htm

I'll just have to get to work on dynamics i guess.
    Very nice score man.

I thought so too! It actually cost me as much as the bass will cost tho, so it's kinda strange to think of it in this way. :D

Thanks. Yeah i'd only ever had a go with an alto before but the tenor just appealed to me a whole lot more. I'm sure I'll get great mileage out of that foghorn-esque low Bb (Concert Ab) :pac:.

    Thanks people!
