Washing hair advice

I used to have a really short hair cut and therefore used to only wash it once maybe twice a week as it never seemed to ever look greasy.

Ive since grown it much longer (about 3-4 inches all around) and therefore it tends to look a lot greaser if I dont wash it.
Thing is i only really get a day of it looking clean and shiney before it starts to look a little greasy.

So now I try wash it every second day, but by the second day its starting to look greasy. Id prefer to wash it everyday, but ive heard thats not good for the hair due to the stripping of oils etc.

Now i havent a clue, have no sisters or anything to ask and have had really short hair all my life. Id prefer for it to look really clean and shiney everyday, but without the damage that washing it everyday will cause. how do i go about this??

I wash and blowdry my hair every day and it's really shiny (if I do say so myself!). I find if you use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner (even if your hair is greasy) it doesn't dry out or get damaged.

sounds like your hair's kinda similar to mine, and if i washed mine every day it'd look even worse (from shampoo buildup i imagine?) i do mine every second day and i'd usually have to wear it tied back the second day so i won't play with it. nobody's hair looks immacualte every single day, but you could always try a dry shampoo to use the second day.

that all said, if you find a solution that gives you fantastically shiney pretty hair every day, do pass it on, won't you? ;)

Maybe you just need to wash it every day? My hair is quite greasy so I have to wash it every day. I find it gets worse when I need to get it cut, it's hard to get it clean looking even washing it on a daily basis. Washing my hair hasn't done it any harm, styling metods like blowdrying and straightening are more harmful to hair.

My hair is lovely the first day I wash it and by the second and third it looks like I haven't washed it in a week! :o But I don't wash it every day because my hair is quite long and it's too time consuming to wash and dry so often, so on the second & subsequent days I tie it up. I used to never have this problem when it was around shoulder length! But I know ppl with long hair whose hair is great looking for a couple of day! Think it must depend on your lifestyle and the products you use.

I saw Nicky Clarke being interviewed once and was surprised to hear him say that washing your hair every day was, in his opinion, essential for healthy hair. He said it was an old wives tale about daily washing being bad for your hair. I'm inclined to agree with him.

My only advice is to make sure you are using a shampoo that is for your hair type, e.g. greasy. Choosing the right shampoo for your hair type can make a big difference. I was given a lovely Molton Brown shampoo and it left my hair in bad condition because it wasn't really suitable.
