Was over there last weekend and I just LOVED it!! Such a lovely city, and plenty to do... the Castle and Dungeon are both cool.

Also, food and drink are so cheap over there....£2.75 for a double vodka and mixer! and that was in most places....
Nitelife fab, way better than Dublin or generally anywhere I've ever been in Ireland! Only had tp pay to get into 1 club, and that was on a Sunday, and even then it was only £4....(and it was one of the more "up-market"clubs as well....)

    Love it :D

we were over there about 2 weeks ago in the middle of the week and nightlife wise it was quiet enough. heard so much about the 3 sisters from friends and went there about 11.30pm on wednesday night and there was nobody there :( the others bars were dead enough too but we found a lively basement rock bar that had bands playing till 4am, next couple of nights we found some decent bars in the grassmarket area

would recommend climbing the 287 very narrow steps to the top of the scott monument or the much easier Calton Hill for a great view of the city

another recommendation would be to take the train out to north queensferry (about 10-15 mins from edinburgh) and view the forth railway bridge (one if not britains greatest engineering projects) while walking across the forth road bridge

We went to the 3 Sisters on a Friday night, it was great craic, good crowd out as well...I would imagine most places would be quiet enough on weekdays anyway though...Would also recommend Frankenstein, cool bar.
There's another club called Espionage which if you go, I'd advise to NEVER leave your mates cos you won't find them again! The place is like a maze!

Just back from Edinburgh with the OH.

We went for 2 days.. Saturday was ruined with what I can describe as the worset hurricane-like winds and rain!

    Sunday was much better..

Shopping; Princes street, ( huge topshop, M&S, H&M, the Disney Shop, Barrets, Office, Currys, fone shops etc)

If you keep walking passed the Disney Shop, you come to St James's Shopping Centre, it looks like Northside Shopping Centre, but its definitley worth a look (HMV, John Lewis, Accessorize, GameStop, SuperDrug, Boots, few nice non-brand boutique's we don't have here). just as you walk in the door, there are two stands that have the most gorgeous bags for about £30- £60.

this shopping centre leads you out to Multrees walk, a designer street with Replay jeans, Louis Vuitton, and Harvey Nicks

GrassMarket seemed to have alot of cool-looking Boutiques but as we were there on a sunday, they were all closed (poo)

CockBurn Street (CoyBurn): this is just off the Royal Mile. imo the best place for one-off kind of shops. There's 1 or 2 touristy shops, mixed with one-off quirky boutiques. Definitely worth a look.

Hotel: We stayed in the Mercure Point hotel, absolutley gorgeous although they offer different types of rooms, ie: basic rooms located at the back with no view.. or more expensive rooms with views of the castle.

Just 5min walk away was Grassmarket, had a few pubs and restaurants although nowhere i was impressed with.

Food: I'd highly recommend The Filling Station, its on the Royal Mile after St Giles Cathedral. The only place that had plenty of seats and does the best food in Edinburgh! I wouldnt say its keep, we spent £7 for a full english breakfast however, the plate was full of food and kept us going til about 5 o'clock!! We then went back for dinner was £38 for 2 courses and 2 rounds of drinks.

We also ate in a place called Mama's italian in Grassmarket, i really wasnt impressed.. family orientated and squashed. plus few times i heard orders where taken incorrectly.

For anyone looking to take photos I'd definitley recommend going in to St Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile. We stumbled in out of the cold and it was my favourite place. You pay £2 for a photography pass, and there's plenty to take photos of.

We didnt get a chance to go up to the Castle, however, I have been there before and would recommend it.

Transport: We got the number 100 bus outside the airport. Cost £5 each for a return ticket and takes about 20/25mins to get to/from the airport. We also used taxis's that i found quite keep as they all drive fast to get you there asap.

    Will post pics later :)
