I got this done when in Viet Nam. It ruins your hair. I had to cut my hair very short and it was just breaking off in chunks. I wouldn't recommend it.

    agreed

nothing can permanently straighten your hair, cos it keeps growing and the new hair will be your natural curl/ wave

its like a perm but with a different setting method, the chemicals break down your hair and make it weak

I had my hair straightened there in Feb and I was delighted with the results. My hair is in much better condition because I'm not using a GHD every day. It does wear off as your hair grows but you'll get a fair few months out of it.

I get my hair straightened in Peter Mark in Stephens Green Shopping Centre. The product is called extenso (sp?). It lasts about three months officially but I find that I only need to have it done twice a year. Towards the 5th and 6th month I have to start using my hair straightener a bit but nothing major. It doesn't ruin your hair anymore than having it coloured but you can't dye your hair within three months of having the extenso done.

Anyone know how much it is to get it done?

Is it true you have to wait 10days after you get it done before you wash it?

Not 100% sure because I get a wash cut and blowdry at the same time but I'm nearly sure the extenso in Peter Mark (Stephens Green only) is about 100. I seem to remember them telling me the first time that it depended on how curly the hair was to start - i.e. curlier hair needs more of the product than slightly wavy hair.

No. I wash mine normally afterwards. I left it a day but that's cos I had it washed and blowdried in the hairdressers.

I have long thick hair with a few kinks thrown in. Its so nice when it is straightened but my god the effort of it. It takes about 2 Hours!! I have always wanted to get it chemically straightened but you hear horror stories of hair breaking and falling out

100 yoyos isnt a bad price

Yeah well as long as you have realistic expectations. My hair is very thick and kinky (not proper curls - more like fuzzy kinks) and after I get the extenso done I don't have the use the ghd but I do still use a hair dryer rather than just letting it dry naturally.

If you have corkscrew curls then you might still have to put a bit of effort into getting it perfectly straight.

    Yes!

I am cursed with fuzzy kinks :( To have poker straight hair for more than a few hours would be a dream come true!!!!

Thanks for the info. I am always told how nice my hair is when I do decide to put the time and effort into it. Might save up the pennies and get it done.

Ive gotten this done in Hong kong at a reputable place and it doesnt wreck your hair, at least no more than dye, highlights etc. It left my hair looking really well and is worth it! however it can go wrong like the girl who got it done in Vietnam so i'd make sure that its a reputable place. However ive gotten my hair cut in that salon and it seems fine...not sure if its because im chinese though!

I have thick hair- It is straight, but tends to be fluffy and I have to straighten it to within an inch of it's life to get it to lie flat. Would chemical straightening work for me?

I'd be dubious....if you dye your hair too.... Also Asian hair is different to Europen hair its definately stronger and naturally a bit straighter

    Hey,

I get my hair chemically straightened in a Japanese place on Talbot steet (just two doors up form the enterance to the Irish Life mall - it's upstairs). its not dodgy at all - normal salon and completely professional. I first got it done about three years ago in Thailand and loved it. My hair would be fairly curly if I didn't blow dry it and would got frizzy in the rain or in clubs - nightmare!
Found out about this place from a friend and first got it done just over a year ago - its supposed to last for six months but I didnt need to get mine done again for another year...cost about €120 to get it done and a cut (my hair is shoulder length).
It doesnt wreck your hair if it is done right (I also have never dyed my hair and they wont do it if your hair has been recently dyed or would be dyed regularly). I was able to get a fringe cut and not worry about having one big curl in the middle of my forehead :D I had checked out the likes of Cowboys and Angels and was quoted €450 without a cut  so was so happy when I found this place - feel confident with the staff as many Japanese and Asians get this done alot so they are well used to doing it .
My hair looks sleek and shiny now and I can dance the night away with ending up looking like one of the Jackson Five!!

I've had the Matrix done 4 times over the past 5 years. It last 12 months usually, but up to 18 months at a stretch.

Its expensive, but totally worth it. I have very wirey, fussy kinky hair and no amount of Ghd will flatten it.

I have found my hair is in much better condition after getting it done, with the added bonus of not having to use the Ghd so often.

I will be getting this done for the rest of my life without a doubt.

Does anyone know of any descent places of getting it done in Galway?? Ive been thinking bout it for ages as the ghd is drying the hell outta my hair! It looks like a dog was chewing the ends of my hair.
