I had such opportunity this weekend and I just was not on form at all.

I got to nieces irish dancing late so missed loads of shots but first pic here is outside the hall, it was dirty and messy and I though I might ne able to turn it into an old shot, a bit soft but saturated down and then the green upped. I got what I intended but I'm not sure if it works, I was going for just little one alone and it would have been more egy but she kept moving so with niece all prettied in her dancing gear I had to soften it to suit.

Hubbie played in Tallaght this weekend. I wasn't on game for this, place was stuffed and roasting, stage layout was a bit funny so he ended up standing on a bar for the whole gig, most shots of him are up his nose and we don't wanna see that, guitarist wasnt usual guy so he was very quiet hidden in the back, bass player usually great poser but he wasnt feeling it, but I did the almost impossible and got up on a stool behind them and low and behold this is what they keys looks like....

As I felt so brutal I thought I'd go for the easy option and do the behind shot, there was no way to get any sort of decent shot from the front so this was the best all in I could do, guitarist is there to the right front of the drummer but with full length black coat, long black hair and black stetson all you can see is a bit of a nose... Ah well, I tried.

there's nothing to be ashamed of, everyone has off days / periods.

My view is there's no reason to share failure with anyone, as long as you take away a lesson or two.

I find it's better to fail regularly.

Thanks eas, I just wanna kick myself up the ass because it's my first gig failure but I did get the money shot with the keys as he has never gotten a good pic before, and he's played slane and even backed up U2 but nobody ever got a good one so he was over the moon and offering to pay and all. Not that I would even dream of charging him...

It didnt feel like a workable venue but I prob should have tried harder for a better shot of the others. Going through them again, I only took 42 shots!!!! That was including the crowd.

did you stand on stools / tables? Get up on anyone's shoulders? Hang from the rafters?

We all know - do what's realistic to get the shots you need to get. :)

I knelt on stools, I think if I stood on a stool in 4 inch heels I might have broken my neck or something worse, even my camera:D

That's not the old mill is it? I've shot in there. Oh the places you lower yourself to when the other half is a musician ;)

I don't see anything to berate. I'm going through shots of friday night here and I'm trying my best to eke something out of them. Boom Boom Room with about three times too many people in it as there legally should be (couldn't breathe - never mind move) and one orange light that was more like a bar off an old electric fire than anything. Oh the joys of the gig circuit!

I like the keyboard one too - lovely and sharp in that size anyway. If he wants to pay then take the money!

Ah thanks Sinead, he's delighted with it and he's a lovely fella and good friend to hubbie, I'm gonna print it and drop it out to him, that many years in music and he's over the moon with this shot, the grin on his face said it all.

It was in the Abberlee Court Hotel in Tallaght, they played the nightclub last time but this time it was the pub, the set up was weird, the area they had for the stage was long and narrow so there was no interaction with the guys really other then them moving when hubbie was jumping off the bar. It was so hot I couldnt even drink as I alright felt whoozy with the heat.

I've seen some dives though in my time, havent been in the old mill but i think he played there. He played an outdoor gig on a tractor trailer during the summer, I was so sad to miss it;)

The lights are hard to work with especially with no flash but I need flash as I dont have the benefit of a fast lense so I don't get too much. I geuss I'm more p'd off with myself for not trying harder but I don't see what else I could have done. I got some great shots of the sounddesk though;)
