Ok, I've read two other threads on learning Spanish. I haven't started learning yet, but I hope by Christmas I'll be pretty decent (Not fluent or near fluent but good at it) Anyway, is there any really great Spanish movies/Books out there? (Not to help learn but to watch) I have the Michel Thomas cd's and I'm going to get cracking on them this week and hopefully have them done in a month. (Hopefully less) Does anyone have ideas/help on what is the best way to learn this language? (I can't goto Spain and live there.)

Is there any good Spanish news sites?

elpais.es and marca.es if you like sport although it has a lot of slang and specialised vocabulary on it.

    Books

La Familia de Pascual Duarte - Cela, also a film version of the book.
El Camino -Delibes - Stand by me type of thing
Requiem por un campesino español- Ramon J Sender As the title says - Civil War story and easy enough to read.

    Films

There are lots and I would say it's a matter of choice. If you are in Dublin you can become a member of the Instituto Cervantes. The library has a selection of films. None that I have seen are easy to follow so for now I would say stick with the subtitles.

I'd also start with papers as articles are much shorter.

I googled stuff on my own to find any decent sites (Work blocks most of them) but elpais.es is quality. Marca.es looks pretty good. Never would know of it had you not mentioned it. Is there any Video game news sites in Spanish? I figure the more I rely on Spanish to know of my favourite hobbys/pasttimes etc, the easier it'll be to learn and understand..

Yep that's a good plan - personal motivation. Know nothing about games but a search for "video juegos noticias" gave me some sites. This one looks OK but you'd be a far better judge. http://www.todojuegos.com/ or maybe this one which is a Google directory listing.

None of those work. I tried. They don't pass the work filter :(
