Not too sure how you can check it in Windows, apart from plugging a USB2.0 device in and seeing if it warns that it is connected to a 1.1 port.
I'd say the chances of a pc capable of running Vista having USB1.1 ports would be slim to none, unless you're using an external 1.1 hub.

Readyboost seems like a HUGE waste of time from what I can tell, unless you've got an uberfast USB device. Just buy more ram, it's cheap as chips these days.

Readyboost is pretty much useless. If you have 512MB ram it gives some minor improvement, if you have 1GB it will give an even less improvement, if you have 2GBs or more than it won't give you any performance boost. Just get ram don't bother with readyboost.

To find out which version you have,
Open the Device Manager by right-clicking My Computer and choosing Manage.
    Click the Device Manager.
Scroll down until you locate the Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand the list of controllers.
If you have a USB 2.0 controller in your computer, the word Enhanced will be listed somewhere in one of those names or it might even say USB 2.0 in some cases.

If you have an old USB 1.1 device and you have USB 2.0 when you plug it in you will get a popup from the system tray saying something to the effect of that you should get a faster one compatible with USB 2.0. I think!

If you PC is less than 5 years old, you most likely have USB 2.0.
