3 day week

I have a small business and want to cut costs for a few months. I think putting it on a three day week would help but I am not sure where to get info on that or how to minimise the financial effect on my employees. Any suggestions?

It's quite a subtle area. You can put people on short time like this without having to make them redundant, but you do have to take care. The basic idea as I understand it would be that they could claim dole for the other three days of the week, and they would also have less of their income taxable at the higher rate. You would need to check on all of this, I do not know the details or the current situation.

I would talk to someone like an accountant or a HR consultant about it. I would ask your business association if you are in one (ISME, SFA, Chamber of Commerce).

Thanks 'antoinolachtnai', I figure there must be a Department site or, as you say, one of the business organisations that have the current info. I just thought there might be someone with recent experience of it who would know the pitfalls!
