    Hi,

My sister just qualified as a beauty therapist and is finding it hard to get a job. As you might sympathise getting jobs at anytime can be soul destroying. I'm trying to keep her spirits up by helping her out. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice?

Is there a particular job website that salons tend to use?

Most jobs are looking for experience, should she just try and volunteer in any place that will allow her to get experience?

If there are any beauty therapists on here how did you start out?

I would imagine its the type of area that would feel a pinch during tough economic times, is this happening?

Any help would be great, even if it doesn't seem to relate to any of the questions I ask.

    Thanks.

Where did your sister do her course?

You could try this site www.salonjobs.ie

Maybe have her seek advice from her course tutors?

And just call into any salon she sees.

What she could do while she's still looking for a salon job is get a job working with an agency that does counter cover for beauty/cosmetic houses in department stores and at the airport - I'm presuming she's in Dublin(although some of these agencies work in Cork and Galway too) ?

    Casey Recruitment http://www.caseyrecruitment.com/
    Elite Placement 01 6629312
    Retail Solutions http://www.rsr-solutions.co.uk/
    Seyner Benson http://www.beautyrecruitment.ie/

It will get her experience in dealing with the public, using skincare, cosmetics and sometimes doing treatments (at counters such as Chanel, Estee Lauder or Origins). All which might help lead to your sister getting a full time salon job. The agencies can be flexible with the number of days you work etc. once given notice. They are always looking for staff. I used them while in between jobs and it's a good way of getting information on jobs elsewhere or permanent jobs at counters, if that is another option for her.

Keep checking fas.ie and nixers.com also for jobs.

Try www.beautifuljobs.ie, they're an irish based site and usually have positions available.
