Processing - What are you using?

So, I'm thinking of opening my wallet for some software. Just wanted to get an idea of what others are using for processing.

I currently use Aperture & iPhoto mainly, however, wouldn't mind having a crack at PS or something else.

So really, I suppose I'm looking to find out what others are using and what they make of it...

All comments good & bad welcomed. Cheers!

(PS: Mods feel free to delete / move this if not posted in the appropriate place)

Lightroom 1 is pretty much the staple of my processing, unless I've got some selective work to do, or it's fashion work, where I'll use LR and PS3

I use basic Canon app for gig photos/sharpening and lightroom 1.4 for when I attempt to get creative or take a pic of a tree or a building. :p

I'm interested in this thread too, I'm a bit in transition at the moment. I was using PS elements 4 quite happily with my D50.

Since I upgraded to a D300, my creaky old elements 4 can't handle D300 RAW files. I've been using Capture NX for the moment which is working well for crops, levels (and curves!) etc., but doesn't have layers and the other fun stuff . I don't think I can justify springing for the full PS CS3, so I'll probably go with Elements 7 when it comes out at the end of the month for the full editing capability.

Everyone I know seems to rave about Lightroom, and my question is, from a workflow (well strictly speaking hobbyflow:)) point of view, what does LR2 give me that Elements doesn't (given that the organiser tool in Elements is pretty good)?

    Any pointers gratefully taken:)

Well, LR will give you so many different applications in one - Your library is essentially the Bridge element of PS, letting you get all your photos together, tag them, add metadata, ratings, yada yada yada, aswell as some basic edits.

The Develop section is similar to that in PS, except dolled up, and with a few nice features. The presets being my favourite. Then you've got sections for printing, web galleries and slideshows.

So, yes, you can do a lot of that in Photoshop, but LR puts it together into a nice tidy package, that'll give you the potential of a smoother workflow...

There's a free 30 day demo on the Adobe website, along with one for Photoshop. Give'em a blast, and see what you think!

I use CS2 but will be upgrading to CS3 once I swap over to an iMac. By the by! If anyone here is a student go to

    www.studentsoftware.ie

Where you can get freakin huge discounts off software from adobe and such. Getting CS3, illustrator etc etc for 250 quid. Very handy indeed. Check it out.

Mele, Hector will be annoying you guys about this :D Trust me.

Lots of ilegal substances (tea, jaffas,...) and some time with CS3. LR is waiting to be discovered so far.

Am I the only person who uses the GIMP?

The disadvantage of using Gimp is that you have to wake him up first :D
