What bankroll adjustments are needed for moving from full ring cash games to six max. I play a fairly low variance full ring game so not sure what to expect.

Have about 30-40 buy-ins for your level... maybe less if you can re-load again, more if you are relying on it as an income...

What do you use for your FR BR??

20 buy-ins in my head, but I only have 8 actually online.

I'd say my biggest drawdown is 2-3, but I don't play that much, and you're just not all-in as much in full ring imo.

Also, it's a hobby, not for income at the moment.

There is something just not right about someone saying they have a low variance poker game...albeit nine or ten handed.

Not strange at all, it just depends on what kind of players you're playing against. I play FR on stars vs a bunch of nits = low variance compared to a 6-max game with a lot of preflop action and all-ins at the same buyin level.

Why? If severe downswings affect your mental state and influence your play I don't see anything wrong with avoiding extremely low/neutral EV spots that come with the variance of a full stack.

Just because every poker player is gonna get into spots fairly regularly where they are getting favourable pot odds to make say for example an all in call. Say three handed you reckon if you make the call you will be 50% to win the pot versus two oponents. Say you hit top set on turn with flush draw and str8 draws are on the board. It would prove unprofitable in long term not to make the call. I'm just saying we all experience decisions like this and being bankrolled for only 8 buy ins because you believe you have a low variance game is insane

lol thats not even close to neutral EV...thats a Hellmuthian snap call.
I'm talkin about getting 5 bet shoved on when you reckon you might have about 37% equity but only 35% to call. So you're expectation is like 1.5bb with a variance of 70bb.

the main thing that will change your bankroll requirements moving from fr to 6max is your winrate, not your variance.

    Just dragging this up again...

I'm playing 10 seater games at the moment (6 tables at a time usually) and I've a bankroll covering 45 buy ins...is this too much? Should I move up a level?

    Thanks.

No harm in moving up a level for a while and moving back down if your bankroll for the lower level reaches maybe 30-35 buy-ins. If you run/play well at the higher level then keep playing until you have 35+ buy-in there, and move up again.

How many buyins do you have for the level above it though? Whats your winrate and what level is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

I don't play online any more, when I did though I had 25-30 buyins for $100NL, I'd have a go at $200NL. I'd move back to $100NL if I lost and had 20-25 buyins for $100NL.

If I ran well at $200NL I'd stay there. I was playing as a hobby though so if you play seriously or full time you'd need to be a bit more conservative. I didn't pay too much attention to winrate since I cashed out if I ever had a nice touch, never really moved above $200NL or $400NL.

I've 34 buy ins for the level above (Currently at $20, $30 is the next level). I've only played 10k hands and my ROI is at 4.14% and in the money 33.54% of the time. Not sure if that's all the info you need...

I'm playing SNGs by the way.

    Thanks!

Ughh..looked at my poker tracker stats there and my bb/100 is something like 0.08...I take it that this is quite bad? :D

nothing too wrong with any +bb/100 ;)

Guys running like the sun can get high figures but anywhere from 1-5 is a decent win rate

Also 35 buy in's while nice to have is a little ott I think... you should now be taking 3 buy in shots at next level

edit... just seen it's SNG's were talking about... I was talking cash.... dunno about SNG's at all

Thanks anyway Macspower. Yeah I know the bb/100 is in green but just! Haha, I'll have to try and rectify that soon.

Is that BB/100 for SNGs? Its pretty irrelevant if it is I think. Don't really have a clue about bankroll for SNGs though.

Yeah that's for SNGs as I don't play cash games at the moment.
