Look, it's still going to hurt like fúck - there's nothing you can do to prepare yourself for the feeling of hot wax on your labia and knowing that there's only one way it's going to come off - but there are a few things that will help minimise it. Or at least, reassure yourself a bit:)

Exfoliate for a couple of days before you go for the wax. I use the Sanctuary body scrub which is good but whatever you're having yourself. Take a couple of Neurofen before you go in. That makes a big difference. I forgot to do it once and really noticed the difference in the pain.

Oh, don't forget to trim! They'll do it for you really discreetly if the hair is too long but you don't want to be The Girl With The Really Long Pubes.

It's totally worth it by the way, it looks and feels great.

im generally veeted away or clean shaved so they wont be long.
im just trying it out because i love the smooth feeling but hate stubble and hate having anything there.

neurofen definietly being taken.god knows the pain will be bad anyhow..and relix is good.

ive been told to get aloe vera for afterwards anyone know anything about that?

To be hoesnt, it hurts way less than you think. Don't be worred about it at all. And you feel great after, although a little chilly :p

Go to a reputable waxing place, like Brazilia or Urban wax, I wouldn't risk it at a regular beauticians!!!

I've never heard that before but it sounds like a good idea. The aloe vera would be lovely and cooling. Say it to the girl waxing you and see what she says.

Yeah, completely agree. If you're going to get it done, get it done properly. There's too many dodgy stories about beauticians doing a bad/incomplete job.

yeah think were planning on going to brazilia
just wondering do you walk a bit weird after it?

    Is Brazilia expensive?

I'm guessing you have to make an appointment, do you usually have to wait long? :)

All the prices are on the Brazilia website. I've gone to both Urban Wax and Brazilia and I much prefer Brazilia. They use oils during the waxing process so that it's not as painful. The first time I went to Brazilia, I couldn't believe how little the pain was compared to Urban Wax! Ok there is still pain but the oils make it much less sore.

No you won't walk funny after it either!

If going to Brazilia, book WELL in advance. Their evening and weekend appointments book out a few weeks in advance. So unless you are flexible and can go during the day, then you might have to wait a few weeks. I never actually found it difficult to get an evening or weekend appointment with Urban Wax, I think Brazilia must be more popular than Urban Wax.

Im not sure what the storey is with drinking befor hand? Im sure your probably not supposed to, but I had a couple of painkillers about an hour befor going in and a glass of wine (or two) which helped at the beginning to deal with both embarrasment and pain. They also sell 'no scream cream' in urban wax but I havent tried it myself.

Couple of Nurofen Plus beforehand works wonders but alot depends on the waxer as well - I had a Hollywood done earlier today and it was grand.

Once you've got a wax, do you have to wait to get all hairy again before you go back?

That's a good question?!! Also, obviously doing it yourself is less embarrassing so how exactly do they manage to get the, erm, awkward places? :o

Yeah you do need to let it grow back but not too much, they can wax it quite short and you don't get any stubble. As you continue to wax the hair gets lighter as well so it's easier.

As for the embarrasment factor if you're going for a Brazilian/Hollywood, forget about it you have to spread it to get all the hair removed. The girl i go to is fantastic she just keeps yapping away so it's not embarrasing - mind you she doesn't get me on all fours like i think they do in Brazilla to get any butt hair :p

Yeah it's good to get a chatty beautician, i remember once she asked me a question..pulled the strip and it took me a good few seconds to answer her! But it does take your mind off it.

You have to let the hair grow back to a waxable length. About 6 weeks for me but my hair is very light so maybe less time for others. It's over in about 10 minutes so you'll be grand!

Dunno where you heard about getting down on all fours in Brazilia but that's nonsense! It's just like that scene in Sex and the City where Carrie goes to a waxing salon and she has to pull her knees up to her chest to get the harder to reach bits!

A brazilian / hollywood only takes 10 mins to do for you?! Where do you go!? Most places they book you in for about 30 - 40 mins so that they can take their time? It's not a job that you wanna be rushing!! Both Brazilia and UW have their appointments like that. Or maybe it does take 10 mins but I don't realise it? Although coz it's quite painful, the time passes sooo slowly so it probably feels like an age that you're in there getting waxed!

Oh and ya are supposed to go usually every 6 weeks. The more you do it, the less painful it gets. If you get it done now, and not again til December, it'll hurt equally as the first time! But if you get it done 6 weeks after ya do it then it doesn't hurt as much.

Does anyone here do their own bikini waxing and if so, what would they recommend?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 fixitbitch

i've waxed my bikini line myself and used veet. both are only ok as i tend to get ingrown hairs. do you think getting a wax done profess would make a difference or should i try shaving? i've always been too afraid to use a razor near the precious bits but really need to come up with a solution cause ingrown hairs are both sore and gross!!

    any advice/ suggestions??

    thanks!

re: the veet. when i used it, the regrowth was just as if i had shaved.. but it was easy and pain-free..

I find waxing is fine to do yourself. I use Nair Hot Wax, my only problem is that I'm not patient enough. I give up too easily!! :o

Does a good job for a normal bikini wax though. :)

Brazilian is not as sore as some like to make out! The sorest part is at the top... back is fine.
Take some painkillers first if you have a low pain threshold and clean down there well. Also make sure you are trimmed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Waxer should offer you wipes and trim if necessary.
Good luck, the result s worth the pain :)
