Operation: Bring back the mystery rag trip

As a 4th year student (5th year in DIT) I only got to go on 2 mystery rag trips :(

For those of you who don't know what this was it was a day during Rag Week (around February) when a load of coaches would come and pick up loads of students in the early morning and take them on a mytery trip around the country stopping in a few nightclubs and end up leaving lots of drunken people on O'Connell street at about 5 in the morning!

This was the only thing worth looking forward for DIT rag week and since it was taken away I have resorted to going to other colleges rag weeks (Carlow I.T. is highly recommended btw:D) as DIT rag week has become "just the same as every other week" (not just my words)

So I am calling on all of you to do what you can to bring back DIT's famous mystery rag trip, not just because its my last year in college (well, yeah because of that actually) but because I wouldn't mind actually remembering my last rag week in DIT for something other than a lame-ass bungee jump.

well for one , it would most likely be too late to do one this year , these things need to be organized well in advance like during the summer , i also hear its too hard to get a company to insure the college and all the coaches . but i think it would be great to have it back , but i dont see it happening for a while anyway

DIT got a bit of a bollocking for the goings on of the old ones, the only way to pull this off realistically would be independent of the college itself

Indeed, Rag trip was one of the highlights of the year back in the day. I have been on a few rag trips.

There is no real way to ensure that the type of a-holes who runied it before for so many DO NOT get tickets. People who throw stuff off buses etc. It is a logistical and secruity nightmare. It was run very well but If it ever comes back, it will have to be externally run I reckon.

I think I was on the last one that happened, finished up in Leitrim drinking free booze. It got fairly rowdy on the way back alrite. An extremely decent bus driver dropped me to my door at 6:30 am, good times.

AFAIK some guy stumbled out of the club, fell into a taxi and mumbled his address in Dublin. Fell asleep and woke up to about €120 taxi bill, sweet.

Edit.. I miss read it to be a rag trip.

Basically, you get three nights out in one day. We visited three venues, stayed there for a few hours and the hopped on the bus to the next one.

It was quite disorientating leaving a night club when you are a bit tipsy at 2pm in the afternoon.. but worth it.

Nothing really. It has been on the week of valentines day in the past few years and thats a pretty decent night out buts it's pretty much like any other night out.

If nobody told you it was rag week you probably wouldn't know it existed!

Everyone should just hop on buses to Carlow, their rag week is the bomb:D

Chances are rag trip will be back this year. Or so we were told at the rep training at the weekend. The Vice Presidents are working on it at the moment.

Just to clear up issues that arose as a result assumptions made by some class reps over a training weekend regarding the rag trip. This Rag trip was banned several years ago due to regrettable behaviour from students, however it was mentioned that it was on the agenda however as a form of research that was being carried on past present and future events that the students union organises and the rag trip was mentioned as one event that caused much controversy however it is not going ahead, it is merely part of research being carried out. The reason the topic was mentioned at class rep training was that the future away training sessions could be in jeopardy if there was poor behaviour from students on the trip, similar to that that occured on the the rag trip several years ago, so there it is, there is no Rag trip, and thats the official line

DIT will never have the rag trip again. The students union couldn't run a bath let alone a rag trip! Just go to the DCU or UCD rag trip instead
