Just saw an ad for ESB and they're back using 'I Think I'm Going Back' by Dusty Springfield... reminds me of the 80's, CatchPhrase, sugar sandwiches and Glenroe on a Sunday evening.

Anyone else remember it bar me?! It was ESB that used it back in the 80's / early 90's, right?

Probably should have posted this in 'All Things Retro'...

    Not Your Ornery Onager

The song is 'Going Back', written by Carole King. Nils Lofgren had a great version of it on his first album.

F*cking hell, that is a serious blast from the past. I think I remember that ad - it was some fella coming back home to his family, wasn't it?

Ah, the ould Gabriel's Oboe, always got this bizarre nostalgic feeling from that tune, even before I'd ever left Ireland (on a boat).

    Yes, I remember it.

They're probably just trying to make us feel-good in advance of the 20% hike on electricity charges later this year. I suppose it's hard trying to keep going when the average ESB workers wage is €67,000 p.a.

Uuuugh ... Glenroe. Used to love the show when I was a kid, but used to hate the "Glenroe feeling" - that being, when you heard the music roll, you knew you only had half an hour before the weekend was over.

Similar to the way I used to hate the Rose of Tralee, cos it signalled the end of the summer holidays. Plus the fact of course that it was a load of sh1te.
