Father has small stud and I have two mares on it, Just wondering what's everyone's thoughts on any new Stallions in the West that look value .
Looking for racing Stallions not half bred , Preferably that have won black type Group races in GB Ireland or France between 7 and 12 furlongs . Not looking to spend more than 2k on a service fee.

I don't want advertising i just want personal experiences or stallions that might not be well known.

    Cheers in advance

Just looking for stallions who went to stud in 2008 or going to stud 2009 , i think thats the best way to get some value. Just as an interest any idea how much Germany is charging.
Ill go through irish field and find the new stallions and post up list later

5k in this economic climate looks a bit steep

i would say the 5k is now about 1k , I wonder how many horses are getting sent to the factory daily .

€5k is now actually €3.5k . If a quarter of mares return to stallions next year its still too many.

Well you could be right but anyone paying more than 1k for a stallion is mad in the head

That's not a great statement. If you have a decent mare, the last thing you would want to do is go to a poor quality stallion. And the good stallions will still attract the nice mares and have decent books. So while stallion prices are going to drop, I'd say by 50% in reality, they will not all hit €1k. And if they do, you must ask yourself the question, why would I even bother bringing my mare to the stallion as the offspring is going to be worthless if people think that little of the stallion.

The factory is full. People are dropping them off there and going away not wanting anything for them. Currentely a 5-6 week backlog.
1k would be enough for him in the present climate.

Plenty of good stallions for the 1k mark and less .

    Can you define "good"?

Is good a stallion that gets your mare pregnant or one that will make the offspring sell?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 Irish_racing

A good stallion is one that at least won a Group race and for me would have to place in a Group One around 8f to 10f .Obviously if your looking for a stallion thats been at stud for more then 5 years you have to look at what the progeny are selling for at the sales and doing on the race track.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭Cantoris

It doesn't matter thought what the stallion has done on the track, it is what it will do for your offspring that is important. So if two stallions have the exact same form on the track, the way you would choose is to determine which mix with your mare would produce a nice type of animal that will be commercially viable when at the sales. So that is someone elses view of what the stallion is like on the sales day. By saying there are plenty of good stallions at 1k and less, it assumes that the stallion will tick both the boxes above.

So i suppose when you see a price for a stallion of 3,000 or 5,000 thats what you are paying , come on .
Come next (april - may) the guys that have Germany will be delighted to get a 1000 cash for a service fee .

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭Cantoris

Maybe they will but if they do it's because nobody wants him and your offspring will be worthless at the sales. There will be a flight to quality at the sales so unless you want to race the offspring I wouldn't touch any stallion at a grand.

I think your missing my point , what iam saying is that the price of stallions could drop 500 or 600 %

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 375 ✭✭Cantoris

And my point is that the good, commercial stallions will not drop that much maybe 6k to 3k.

BTW, presume you mean 90% as if you drop from 6k to 1k thats a 90% drop. You cant drop 600% unless you go into negatives.....you can only increase by that amount.

So what stallions would you think are worth 3k , in the west midlands please

You can gert stallions that have produced group (1 ins some cases)winners for as little as 1.5k (advertised price). I would consider that value. Here are a few competitvely priced stallions that have produced stakes winners for less than 4k in no particular order and just off the top of my head.

    Waky nao (grp 1 producer)
    Talkin man (grp 1 producer)
    fayruz (grp 1 producer)
    Artan (grp 1 producer)
    Millkom (think he's left Ireland)
    Lahib (grp 1 producer)
    Pelder (grp 1 producer)
    atraf
    Danroad (grp 1 producer)
    Bahri (grp 1 producer)

    There are many
