I have recently realised that I have way too many clothes and I keep buying more.
I have things with the labels still on, its ridiculious.

I am wanting advise on how to organise my clothes so that I use what I have and I know what I have without saying " I dont know what to wear" and then off to the shops...

I also need to give lots to charity, but I just cant give the stuff away, you never know I might wear it again some day.

    I need your help!

Mods, if this is the wrong forum please feel free to move it.

nicknax, I feel your pain! :p i've the same kind of problem with my clothes, having too many, keep buying them and nowhere to put them! As well as donating to charity, I've recently sorted through clothes that are a bit summery and took them out of my main wardrobe & put them in separate shelves. I then arranged all clothes in order of size (sounds naff i know!) i.e. short sleeves to long sleeves, then dresses. Jeans and formal dresses etc are in another cupboard and my winter woollies are in my main wardrobe. I don't know what most ppl are like for wardrobe space but I've a lot of shelves etc.

From working in a clothes shop I have become so OCD about my wardrobe! My best advice is catagorise your clothes. I have all of my going out tops in one wardrobe and (sad I know) but they are colour coordinated so you know whats there in what colour!

Also summer clothes as fifomania said should be stored separetly unless they can be worn into winter with say tights for skirts or basic long sleeve tops for tops.
If you start to reorganise have a clear out and think about what you really will wear or what you definately wont need and get rid of them. I had horded so much clothes until I figured out that unless I love the piece to bits there is no point in keeping it as if its style does come back into fashion, there is no doubt that shops will have replicated or similar options. You will feel so much better if you just clear it all out because you will have more room and it will be easier to find stuff you love!

I find categorising by colour really helps see new combinations.
Take everything out of your wardrobe. Put away the summer clothes. Take out anything you haven't worn in a year, and have a good hard look at it. Take out anything you if you aren't 100% happy wearing it.

I have the exact same problem, my wardrobe is full of clothes but I still never have anything to wear. Try organising your clothes into categories - work, casual, going out etc, so when you're going to work/out/wherever it's easier to see what you have and you don't have to tear your wardrobe apart. Put away any summer clothes that you won't be wearing until next year (if you're lucky) so there's less clutter and give away any clothes you don't wear any more. It can be hard getting rid of clothes, especially when they still have the tags on them, but if you can't honestly see yourself wearing them then there's no point hanging onto them. I should really practice what I preach!

I'm useless at organising my clothes but luckily I have a sister who adores cleaning so she helps me.

The first thing to do would be to get rid of all the clothes you don't wear. You say you find that hard, so get a friend or family member to go through everything with you. They pick something up and you say if you want it or not. If you hesitate, it goes to charity!

It should be easier to organise everything after that.

    thanks all,

I have a a good understanding of what needs to be done but I just cant do it.

I have already managed to get some stuff in bags for charity but I'm still struggling.

I have planned to clear loads out this evening so that the bedroom is tidy for the weekend. I am trying to get the bedroom tidy cos you know what they say, tidy room, tidy mind!

Thanks again and I will give you all an update.

    Thanks:D

    quick update,

I have got 4 bin bags for charity, I have them in the car ready to go(incase I change my mind)

I will have more on Monday, I will have my boyfriend home at the weekend to give his opinion on what is left (which is still lots).

Thanks for all the tips and advice, I am starting to feel much better bout the situation already.
