Ease of updating RAM

    Hello
I have a powerbook G4. When I bought it it had 1gb, now it says 512. I'm guessing I have to open it up and slot it back in but can't find a small enough screwdriver. Is it easy enough to do myself or should I bring it in somewhere?

Also, if I buy a 20'' imac with 1gb, is it easy to buy more and put it in myself? Does it come as two 512s or one big one? That'll matter because if I buy one big one and put it in the new amount will be with 1.5 or 2, depending on how mac arrange it, if that makes sense?
The prices mac quote for an upgrade is crazy, I know I could buy it cheaper, just wondering if I would be able to put it in myself without killing the machine.
Thanks!! You guys are great. :D

Installing RAM is pretty simple on any Mac. You'll be able to find a guide for each particular machine at http://www.apple.com/support/.

Afaik the current low-end iMac comes with a single 1GB chip so the second slot is free for expansion. I'd recommend getting the extra RAM from Crucial.

As said above, a RAM upgrade is the easiest hardware upgrade you can do on any mac. Definitely buy it from crucial.com. They deliver to ireland for something like 7€ (dont quote me on that, it off the top of my head)

loads of videos on youtube of people doing this

Well I'm trying to practice on my G4 powerbook, but I can't even get the little screws open! I bought some precision tools but they're not doing the job. Anyone know of the name of something I could get to open the thing?!?

To find out what tools you need locate your exact model of PowerBook here:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/

Then choose the 'RAM' from the links on the left of the page that comes up.

My first guess is that you'd probably need a Phillips screwdriver set.

If you don't have one I'm happy to help you out (Dublin city center).
