RAW Converter

What RAW converter would you recommend?

I'm currently using Bibble Lite, and I'm not sure it's giving me what I need... it can be a little bit slow and buggy?

    What does everyone else do?

Also I tend to do curves in Bibble and go straight to jpeg... done... I wouldn't mind maybe getting a bit more into something like the GIMP, but I'm not sure how much adjustment I should do in the RAW converter, and how much in the Gimp/PS?

    Thanks in Advance!

I use either Olympus Master software for basic edits, viewing of my RAW files. I've started using Lightroom 2 and I find it very good.

    Give Raw Therapee a whirl - http://www.rawtherapee.com/?mitem=3

Its got really good raw processing and combined image editing (cropping etc.)
    capabilities and its free.

    simply raw conversion?

Silkypix i find is quite good and inexpensive-ish ( 150 US Dollars ).

UFRAW - I find a bit quirky but very functional and free - http://ufraw.sourceforge.net/

I don't do an awful lot of post processing - when i do its generally the gimp which i find very functional - I suspect unless you are doing something very complex it would be functional for most users. I've heard it said that there is a steep learning curve with it, but tbh i find it grand. I've never used photoshop. Have had the trial of lightroom - didn't particularly interest me and didn't find it intuitive but that may be me. I must give it a second look.

    Cheers.

Thanks guys... I downloaded a trial of lightroom and it wasn't giving me anything over Bibble to make it worth the money.

I guess what I want to do is non destructive curve editing (which bibble gives me, but gimp does not) and also be able to pick the cmyk values using an eye dropper (which gimp gives me, but bibble does not!)

You can't keep the colour picking tool and the curves tool open at the same time in gimp, if you use the colour picker while you have curves open it saves the curve and disappears, next time you open curves it's back to a straight line, but the changes have been applied, so you can't adjust the curve you had applied... very frustrating!

If it's pure raw processing your after it's hard to beat Capture One. A large number of top professionals use it for the results it gives.

It's a raw processing tool par excellance, but if your looking for file management etc it's relatively basic and you'd need something else for that.

Great results and ease of use though.

Free 30 day trail here. €99 thereafter, you won't regret it.

Something you might be interested in:

Bibble is gonna have a version 5 soon which will be able to do selections and layers!

It says it will be free for users of the latest version of bibble so I have upgraded my bibble pro to version 4.10.1 and plan to get it

    The preview looks very good

    I say Adobe look out!
