I have just given up cigarettes - used to smoke 30 a day so very very unfit. I was wondering if you could give me some tips on gradually building up my fitness, im a member of a gym which has a pool. thanks in advance for your suggestions!

The best advice anyone can give is to do what you think you will enjoy. If your gym has a pool and you like swimming, or even think you will, then go for that. It'll build up your fitness nicely and quite quickly - and it's almost impossible to injure yourself swimming - unlike nearly every other sport. It's perfect for people starting out!

    Good luck.

    Congrats!

I can appreciate that giving up smoking is a huge change in the routine so there's nothing like swimming to fill your time not spent puffing. However, you'll probably be snacking more because of the whole oral habit. There's a personal trainer named Paul Hurley who uses a really integrated approach so you don't feel like you're just hopping on a treadmill to get fit.
I found out about him on Confetti.ie because he's running a bridal bootcamp!

I preach to everyone about the benefits of swimming! I've been swimming since I was a kid and for it, I have a very feminine build with a whittled waist, flat abs and a behind that defies my genetics.

So good luck and stick with it!
