    Hey folks,

My iBook G4 is about 3 years old and is getting a bit too slow for my liking, and the keyboard is faulty too. Thinking of getting a new one! It'll be handy for college, but I use it alot outside of it anyway

Anybody got recommendations of what's the best value mac to use for the next few years? For programming, internet, and watching DVDs mainly.

I believe students get 10% discount or something... got that when I bought the iBook anywho. I'm also aware of the rebate on an iPod when you get a Macbook.

I don't think I could afford >€1,300 -- so will it have to be a Macbook, yeah? They still the business? :D The Macbook Air would be pretty sweet, but a bit pricey (and AFAIK there's no disk drive...).

So yeah just post your thoughts on getting a new Mac, I shall take all of your advice on board!

    Cheers

    Dave

Dave I have read on some posts here that Apple will be launching some new lap tops and desk tops around the 14th of October. Hopefully this will mean that the older stock will drop in price.

Hold on for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

If you do buy then buy it online and go through the link to the Apple store on the IT services tab on UCD Connect, you save a good bit on even the regular student discount. But I'd say keep the iBook for a few more weeks and see what happens, there's rumours of lower price points on the new stock.

And the original low end Core Duo MacBook has handled anything I've thrown at it for the last 2 years. Admittedly I don't do programming, but if you're considering a MacBook Air then you should be fine with the more powerful MacBook.
