What would you wear to a job interview for a clothes store??
I've an interview in a week and am unsure whether to go for the safety of black suit/white shirt or to show off a bit of my personality & love of clothes! Advice more than welcome! I need this job! :o

can't you do both? there's no reason you can't look proffessional and get your personality across. (i'm not a black-pants-white-shirt type of gal myself but luckily wear i am as long as i look 'presentable' and nothing denim or too short or low-cut, i'm free) what clothes shop are you interviewing for? maybe they've got something suitable in their stock- a bit of rear-end-licking never hurt anyone :P

i could linky to some stuff but i dont know your style  but good luck in the interview whatever you wear

What are the employees in the store wearing to work? Are the wearing clothes of the kind they are selling? Are they wearing clothes which are more formal that the clothes they are selling? You will have to show at interview that you can grasp a dress code and apply it. One store's emphasis may be on employees looking like the customers another may be on employees looking more remote. Do your research!

Personally, I'd play it safe, doesn't have to be the old black suit routine, but something smart and respectable, you can always wear killer heels/ statement necklase to show off a bit of your personality. Chances are the people who are going to interview you are going to be the "suits" of the operation, altho i suppose its depends on what the store is.
As suggested see what the other employees are wearing (maybe ask them for advise if you can).

    Good Luck with it anyway.

If its a store like Next, I'd go for the safe option of black trousers and shirt etc, as they have a uniform anyway so they ain't trying to see your personality through your clothes

Really?? they've a uniform...so that makes me think the black suit/white shirt is a good idea!

Its not so much a uniform as that they have to wear black trousers and a white shirt or something like that.

For NEXT, I'd definatley play it safe, don't think they have a uniform but there is definatley a neat dress code going on in there, as said black trousers, shirt type thing.

The staff in Next in Dundrum don't wear a uniform - they wear clothes from Next! I would say that anything smart and 'safe' would be fine - nothing too funky.

    Hey there,

A friend of mine is a manager in Next, she has to wear clothes from the current season Next stock, she gets a uniform allowance, should be fairly easy to get something in there to suit as they have a good range of formal clothes in store... best of luck :D
