    Hello,

I've read failsafe's post about sky and eyeTV, but what I wondering is can I use a satellite dish as a large aerial to get BBC and other channels in Dublin.

I have a friend who has a linux setup and a technotrand usb stick getting this, and I want to know can eyetv do the same thing?

    Thanks in advance

Hmm... I don't know, to be honest. You're probably better off asking on the Elgato forums. You can however pick up FTA satellite channels from Astra 2 using a standard Sky dish (or any other similar dish), but the EyeTV for DTT stick can't do this, you'll need an EyeTV 310 or equivalent DVB-S decoder (the 310 costs €300, Terratec make a compatible one for €100).

    Tok,

I'm in the process of building a DTT & DVB-S PVR system housed in a Mac mini.

To my knowledge there are four products capable of feeding the satellite signal to the EyeTV software.

    Terretec Cinergy S USB Mac : €129

    Digital-Everywhere FireDTV S2 : €199.80 (DVB-S & DVB-S2)

    Elgato EyeTV 310 : €299

Networx SATV : €289 (*Only available in Germany)

Digital-Everywhere also have a DVB-S/CI model available for €129 but Elgato have refused to support it with the EyeTV software for fear of wiping out their own EyeTV 310. The EyeTV 310 and FireDTV DVB-S/CI appear to be the same product apart from the colour of the box.

Of the four products the Networx SATV is the coolest looking, it's a DVB-S receiver with CI, USB and Firewire hub and you can put a hard drive in it too. It looks like a Ministack with the added feature of being able to receive a satellite feed. :)

For my own setup I've got the new EyeTV Hybrid. I have yet to tune the four DTT channels successfully, I suspect that the walls of the house are lined with lead so I may need to install a proper aerial to get the signal right.
