Was out in Hollystown early yesterday morning and thought the place was looking a little worse for wear. Still alot of water and waterlogging on the fairways, bunkers with big puddles and lost of sand on the greens.
Was wondering where other courses similar, appreciate the difficulty in maintaining them with the freaky amounts of rainfall this summer but the last week or so was fairly dry I thought?

I'd say water levels are still so high that the rain we had midweek (there was a good bit on Thursday night out here) would not be able to get away.

Played Hollywood Lakes yesterday and it was fine. Touch squelchy in places, but greens were really good condition.

The rough on all courses i've played recently has been horrible though. very hard to get the club through the ball.

Hollystown in particular is a wet course it has got to be said, but all courses have struggled with the terrible amount of rain this year, and now coming into the winter months, its difficult to see the weather getting any better.

A factor one must put into their minds when buying membership for next year... How wet is the course that their going to join and is it shut much.....!

Was there myself yesterday morning.......christ how many people on the tee's. really wet, greens sanded,no carry on drives, really not worth 42 euro.

I was in Newbridge on Saturday and it was really wet. Although the greens were just right apart from all of the unrepaired ptch marks. Each green had at least 6 or 7 fresh ones. There was a society out before us. It's no wonder societies are finding it harder and harder to find courses

Yes the wait on red and yellow at around 9.30 was crazy, we were due to play yellow back 9 but we sneaked over to the blue as there was nobody on the tee, couldnt figure why that was? Not sure about renewing for 09.
Deffo interested in Hollywood lakes or Castleknock just having trouble justifing the cost for the amount of times I actually get out

Was also at Hollystown on Sunday morning. Hardly surprising it was busy with the Ryder Cup and the fact it was the first decent weekend for a good while. The three ball in front of us were very, very slow though and even after we joined up with the two behind us we were right up their arse.

That’s whats annoying about Hollystown, somedays you go out and its mad busy beyond belief, very frustrating when people in front are playing so slow.

I’m in the same position as your self regarding weather to rejoin Hollystown or not. Do you think it will rise in price? Hope not! How much is Hollywood lakes to join?? Seems like a nice course on their website. Castleknock it just a little out of range, hard to justify spending €3,000 on a years membership

Hollywood lakes is 5,500 joining fee and then around 1300 per annum sub.

There was an ad in the paper last week for someone selling their share up there for 3.5k. I believe not that long ago it was 10k to join so perhaps worth waiting.

I'd imagine Hollystown may go up 10-20 euro or so at most. Most clubs will go up a little bit with inflation and higher running costs etc...

I was in Blarney at the weekend, everything was in good nick EXCEPT the greens, they were being sanded & spiked ie. terrible :( as I was making all the greens in 2 (on par 4's) doh !!

Played castleknock a lot the past 6 weeks and I have to say its amazing, I heard they have under soil drainage on the green, superb from first to last.

60 euro a week direct debit, play all the golf you want..............surely thats unbeatable.

re: hollystown, I hate that place when its wet, on sunday it took 5 hours from the 1st tee, the 3 ball in front wanted shooting they were so fcugking slow.

You hit the nail on the head there regarding the slow play in Hollystown... terrible altogether

I honestly think all the gimps play elm green and hollystown for some reason, often seen a 4 ball play out of 2 bags, gob****es hitting the ball 50 yards taking 6 to get to the green and then lining up puts.....sweet jesus how annoying is that.

That's because they're both public courses. Go to any of the pay as play courses and it's the same story. Biggest problem is that the clubs are far too lenient with their course rules. They say one bag per player, no jeans and all that but don't enforce it at all. Most likely cos they're not in the position to turn down the cash.

    All exactly spot on............

The joy of playing a private course were people know how to play and respect others.

Thats 3k a year ,bit steep in my opinion.

It's an option, but it's certainly not unbeatable. Saying it's 60 euro per week maybe helps you justify it yourself but 3k seems pretty steep to me. What if you don't play every week or don't really get out in the winter?

It's an option that will suit certain people and fair play, but for 3k per year i think i can do a lot better.

But the course is top class, I play twice a week @ 50 euro avg per game.

so 60euro seems great value for a brilliant track.
