i don't usually, if ever post here , but the Ryder cup, used to be my favorite sporting event . This years event i could not get into at all, I would be a mad European supporter , but with Faldo's crazy decisions and lack of leadership , i found it hard to get behind a team that looked lost and confused, as compared to recent times.

Oh and that constant jingoistic chanting , USA USA USA , just made me switch off completely , jesus its golf , not football ... what next European fans to start screaming at each shot next time , somehow I think we have more class.

will the event ever return to its lofty heights ?

And the "ole ole ole" chants along with "you'll never beat the Irish" were down to the American supporters as well.

Some of the reports of what the American fans did here , and back in '91 , you just wouldn't get their conterpart Eurpopeans doing -- as i said above this year with the rudderless leadership i found it it hard to care , as some of the European players seamed of a similar disposition.

Have to say, that was an absolutely fantastic weekend of sporting television. Sky really know how to make it work and build it up.

Saturdays night's matches were incredible. Edge of the seat stuff.

The standard of golf all weekend was fantastic too. Think i must've been watching a different event to the OP!

    Roll on 2 years time!

The contest itself was fantastic. Sure, Faldo was cringe-worthy and the opening ceremony was appalling but the golf was fantastic. Mickleson and Kim vs Harrington and McDowell on friday night was riveting stuff... our guys were about 8 under and were beaten 2up.
In the singles on sunday it was like a birdie assault on the course... the result may not have gone our way but the contest was incredible.

Have to agree that the golf was of the highest level and made for thrilling viewing. ok- the chants and crowd were a bit jarring, but they had every right to be, they were playing class golf! And, to be fair to Weekley (didn't think I'd see myself write this after his giddy-up antics off the 1st tee!) he really did calm down considerably from Friday afternoon - he accepted he'd been out of order and moved on.

Don't think Sergio will be moving on from this for quite some time - he behaved like a spoilt child and was an embarrassment to himself - shame on you Sergio!!

oh - and for some behind the scenes gossip - got forwarded a text from an extremely reliable source (v.v. close connection with McGinley) that Westwood had sent McGinners on sat night saying that it was carnage over there with Faldo, and that Casey had booked a flight home and had to be talked out of it by rest of the team??!!

I believe the source, even if the content may be slightly exaggerated....

 Casey? His interviews in all the mags have been of Faldo being an idol etc? Juicy stuff...

I know! Casey came up through all the Faldo junior series ranks, but he looked completely out of sorts on saturday, and not just cos he couldn't putt it in a bucket me feels - did you notice the reaction with el capitano after casey and garcias match finished?? big hug for sergio, very cold tap on back for casey!

I didn't spot that but I can't even understand what could cause such a massive row? Even if he had been dropped for all 4 games he would have been upset but got on with it would he not? If it's true it will surely be leaked shortly won't it? Not that i'm doubting your link but obviously it's hearsay at present...

I hope it's not true though, I'd hate to see Faldo being executed at dawn for such nonsense...

Must have been something that was said behind the scenes you'd think....yes, is obvious hearsay at the mo, but i have a feeling there's going to be a lot of leaks like this a la Mark James!

The sky coverage, after the result was known, showed Casey giving Faldo a big hugsy wugsy so it cant have been as bad as your texter suggests.

I agree some of the golf played by the US team was from the top drawer ! And they deserved their win 100%
    But two things really bothered me;

-Boo Weekleys behaviour and that of the US supporters was in my mind a joke. Im not one of these over the top rule sticklers with regard to coarse behaviour etc. and I do understand the high they were on. Some EU supporters also joined in on the act and this is my point. If let go unchecked it will only get worse. Yet again I thought they let themselves and the game down. I have a young son who I hope one day will play golf to learn respect etc. from it, which most def is not taught in Soccer for example. But watching this Ryder cup I just saw the lines being blured . . .

-Where was Faldo during the singles ? Was it just me, or maybe it was the Sky coverage . . . I saw Azinger everywhere, talking to his players, support staff, supporters etc.. One of the few times I saw Faldo and he was giving water to some EU supporters in the stands, why ?? Did he not know he was needed elsewhere ??

Please dont see this as sour grapes, because its not. America were the better team on the day and worthy winners. We neeed to learn from this though, for the sake of the game and future Europe teams.

I presume Faldo was at the first tee until all his players had teed off, then he was out to the crunch areas.
