Focus question

    Could someone explain the difference in these 2 photo pls.
    One has horizontal focus & the other vertical.
    Note: 2 diff lenses, camera was held upright.

    The difference is that there is a piece of dirt in the first picture and a mosquito in the second one.
    Or if you meant some other difference, you should specify your question a little more ;)

    I think the question is why the band in focus is horizontal on one image & vertical on the other?

    With a narrow DOF the only things in focus are in a hemisphere which is equidistant from the lens. This can be assumed to be a plane (flat area) as the distance is larger.

    In the two images shown that plane is vertical in one & horizontal in the other. It has nothing to do with the lens you are using but rather the subject in the photo.
