A poker book is a decent idea,
Do you want to get him a poker theory book, or a poker story book (fiction and non-fiction avail).
Obviously theory books have more potential, but the stories are more enjoyable (well the dedent books are, alot of crap out there)
Good book stores will have a good selection.

Another option is a buy-in to a live game. I got last years IPO entry as a present, depending on your bro he may or may not like this option

Eason's in Galway don't have any. I've tried on several occasions.

Get him something more high brow than a set of poker chips IMO.

You'll pick up a basic Backgammon or Mah Jong set cheaply enough. Expand his mind.

don't buy a chipset anyway... all us poker players have 1 too many already... as regards a book I think there only place I've seen them over the counter is the Fitzwilliam card club... not sure what they ahve in stock now...

Buy In to a live tournament is a good suggestion. Otherwise how about a subscription to a poker magazine? My missus got me a subscription to Inside Poker. There are others also - Bluff, CardPlayer.

Biggest selection of poker books is Chapters, Parnell St. in Dublin. Hodges Figgis have a decent selection also.

For tournaments Harrington on Hold'Em is a good buy (there are 3 volumes), if he does not have it already.

If I get anything else related to Poker, I'll go mental. I even got asked by a friends mother if I'd like to buy a set of chips that she'd won in some raffle.... ehh, no thanks!!

Back to the topic at hand, a book would be a good idea, or maybe a subscription to one of the Poker Training Sites, cardrunners or deucescracked would be a good bet.

Decent packs of cards are always welcome if he plays many home games.
Whilst chips are for life, cards often need replacing as they get scruffy (and cannot be cleaned in a washing machine or dishwasher as we know).

I once got a hand made leather belt with all the suits dotted around and embossed on the leather. Big massive buckle of a royal flush on it .

Horrid. I would be better suited bringing it for a walk than keeping up my pants with it.

    Will take bids for it.

    On a serious note
Why not buy him into the tourny of his choice for the amount you would have spent..although this looks like a 20 rebuy from ther looks of things.

On a less than serious note.
There is an excellent book out there if you really want to buy him a book. It's called the rise and fall of Billiards and Poker in Warsaw. It's written in perfect broken English, even Tarzan could read it.

    I've read it.

The swings are incredible in it.

LOL, I just knew someone would resurrect that thread. Is Flibble dead by the way?

Seriously OP, get him decent Bicycle Cards, they never go to waste. You can never have enough decks of cards, unlike Chips.
