#1 - I think if you got lower angle of view, it'd produce better result..
#2 - I like the idea, however the squirrel is a bit ouf of focus...

Your right about lower to the ground, but I had no time. I was on the ground for Number 2. I dunno if its out of focus though, look on flickr at the larger image and tell me what you think. Thanks for the comments though.

    Dave.

You weren't out in the Botanic Gardens today were you? I had a run in with an inquisitive squirrel today!!!

The first one is ok, the flash does nothing for it though.

I really like the second one, it is overly soft though. I personally would do a little PP (it doesn't seem like any was done?) to it, try and up the colours etc:)

The Squirrels in the Botanic gardens are so much braver than the ones in St. Anne's park or the Phoenix park.

    Hi Dave,

just a couple of comments: I think the first photograph is interesting, albeit not fully successful. The flash is a little freaky; the squirrel looks a bit like a demon squirrel from the seventh circle of hell. not that I've seen any before, but you get my drift. The eyes are particularly evil looking.

I'd agree that it would have been nice if you could get it from a lower angle but I know squirrels are not always willing models, the little irritating creatures who run away from me at the Botanic garden EVEN when I have Fajitas! long lens on my camera or have his camera or something.

Second one: yes, nice angle. If you have access to post processing software I would look at pulling the curves down slightly, upping the contrast and upping the saturation. To me here, the colours are just a little flat. There's a part of me querying a possible crop of the empty space on the left.

It looks like a very shallow depth of field which is possibly why you are getting comments about focus and softness. I see you shot it at 4.3 which strikes me as a little broader than it looks.

anyway, well done and keep them coming.

    Yeah,

I was the guy with the green t-shirt on the ground most of the time.

I think I will run the second one through photoshop later on. I am only on my laptop, and I know the screen is really poor so there was no point in even trying to change anything cos it might make it worse. I have some more too, ill see if there are any other good ones.

I think I saw you, were you photographing in the Herbacious Gardens? Long lens, at the blue flowers?

I was the guy with the red t-shirt getting up close and personal with most of the flowers and the bee's.
