    Hi
I am thinking of getting the Dell XPS M1530. It looked good on the dell website and there were positive reviews. I'm not sure though if I can trust reviews on this website, they're bound to be biased. Does anyone know about this model. I will be travelling around so I need good communication, mainly for e-mails.
I would appreciate some advice, I dont know much about technology.

    Have you any specific questions?

Its a good laptop. For a 15.4", its fairly light slim. However, its also a pricey model, if all you need is something for e-mails, you could certainly get away with something less powerful. Also, if you are travelling a lot, I would consider something in the 13" range, there's quite a difference in the portability.

Its expected to be discontinued in Oct/Nov.

I needed a new laptop, did a lot of researching and this is the one I chose.

What a good choice, very nice looking laptop and nice and slim and light. As portable as 15inch laptops come.
I bought on dell website, 2.4ghz, 4 gig ram, 1440x900 res, 320gig hard drive.
Runs really really well, very fast. It can even run high end games like Crysis if you fancy a bit of gaming.

The only one drawback is that it runs a little hot sometimes. This is a problem with all laptops though, really cant be avoided with a laptop this portable and powerfull.

Someone said its a bit expensive, maybe. I picked mine up for 1100 euro. If you want something to get the job done and browse the net, yes you can get cheaper. But, if you want something portable, great looking, fast and capable of running any game, go with this.

Thanks folks for your replies. It still sounds good to me. I will be starting a small business soon and will need to store clients data. I want someting versatile so that I can stay in contact with family and friends while I travel and also use for work. I am just a little concerned that this model is due to be discontinued soon. I'm not quite sure of the implications of this, or if I should be conserned.

    Relevant to this thread:.

Screen's a bitch to keep clean, or read in sunlight, and there's some question marks over the GPU staying alive, but otherwise it's fine. I'v had mine since the start of May and it's doing fine.

I have one with similar spec to jack222.
As Dartz says, there might be an issue with the lifespan of the gpu - so get insurance!
I am very happy with my one in general. I agree it does get quite hot sometimes - which I suspect is related to the possible shortened lifespan of the gpu. The only other issue I've seen is fairly minor - the speakers are crap.
I have the reflective screen and am happy with it - it's a very good screen. Like any of the reflective tfts it becomes reflective in very bright light; but that's an issue with them in general not with the xps screen in particular - and if you expect it to be a problem for you you'd be better off sticking with the non-truelife version of the screen.
I play games on my one and it does run new games quite well. I have 800px screen and think that might be a good choice if you like games - it might not run some new games quite so well on a higher resolution than that - and the 800px display looks well anyway.
I haven't found it difficult to keep clean at all - no more than any other laptop.
I don't think there would be any issues resulting from it being discontinued.

Do you intend to play games on it or just use it for business use?
It's good for business use too, but the gpu is a bit redundant for that. Might be better to look at an alternative rather than paying for something you don't intend to use and which could break prematurely!

Have mine now since beginning of year, and no isseues thank God, it does lose the wireless connection though requiring a reboot, not sure why this is.

Screen is glary for sure in sun light or without the power plugged in.

Sorry now for this, but whats up with the GPU?

What's wrong with the gpu? I want it for business not games (sadly no time for games). Should I try another model?

I would appreciate some advice on this.

This is worth a look, basically various nVidia GPUs have a shorter MTBF due to a sub standard base material in the chips. The problems are exacerbated by lots of thermal cycles. The Dell or Dell XPS forums over on notebookreview are also worth a look, but beware there is a lot of info to wade through.

To answer your other question, if you are more interested in a business machine a Dell Vostro or Dell Latitude might be a better choice.
