Canon Cashback

I've an EOS20D and queried with an Ebay seller whether the EOS40D bodies they were selling were eligible for the Cashback available everywhere else. The particular Ebayer told me that they were not. I realise that the offer finishes on 21st September, but I'm still curious.

The only reason that I can think of for this, is that they've already claimed the cash back - as "consumers", thereby increasing their profits accordingly. Can anyone think of another reason?

or that the person youre buying from isnt an authorized retailer.

The stock may not have origniated or been destined for the area they're to be shipped to.

For example Canon may be running a cashback offer in the UK and Ireland but the stock held by the seller may be stock built by Canon for the USA ot thr Far East or NZ or Aus. This would mean the cashback offer would be invalid on stock destined for a different region.

The cashback offers are typically run to get stock in a particular country or region moving, theryby selling more units through the official importer e.g. Canon Ireland.

The basic body and spec may be the same but the plug on the charger may be different, the on-board firmware may be slightly different, user software supplied on disk may be different. Remember this will probably differ for the various regions.

So for this reason the cashback offer may not be valid.

    2 points
1 the cashback has been extended to 12 Jan 2009

2: the terms state that it must be purchased from an authorised retailer in the UK or Ireland.

Thanks guys. I'm just too suspicious. Hopefully, the prices might drop a bit more when everyone is beating the doors down to get a 50D.

Do Canon honour the cashback, if the camera has been purchased after the window has closed? I'd be guessing no.
