Hate that. I'm just about to brew up with the aeropress and some of that lovely Black Cat. Don't know of anywhere down there for a good coffee. I tend to take the aeropress and the grinder away with me if I'm leaving for a few days.

    I know :D

It didn't hold up in the aeropress at all. Sticking to espresso with this 'un.

On that subject I got my own Aeropress this week (finally). If I had a hand grinder I'd bring them both away with me.

Have you tried it out much? Did you try an espresso grind on it?

Would you rate a hand grinder far beyond a whirly?

Yes - a "good" hand grinder will have good burrs and will create an even grind.

I've heard the little coffee stall in the English Market is good. Also Cork Coffee Roasters on Bridge Street. I've had a decent espresso in Sugar on Washington Street. Also, most Italian restaurants serve good coffee in between meal times (try Casanova, North Main St),

Yes but with the Aeropress if your bag gets searched security will question your manhood

LOL, thinking of that Austin Powers scene. I'll youtube it later.

TBH my house is the best LOL but other than that you can get a good coffee in Butlers if the Italian guy is working. I got a good coffee in a cafe that I can't remember the name of. It is new and is opposite Jurys Western Rd (almost next door to cafe Paradiso). If you are looking to buy freshly roasted beans for personal use I would recommend ordereing from Ristretto in the North...cheaper than Cork Coffee Roasters and IMHO nicer. Don't try Mahers they don't roast their own and also leave the beans sitting in those huge glass boxes sometimes with the lid off!!!

ya that cafe opposite jurys does savage coffee, its cafe depeche, they hav another one next door to the gate cinema on north main street :) happy espresso drinking!

The Mutton Lane Inn (pub down a lane off St. Patrick Street) does a fine coffee, depending on who's working!!!

Sin É, The Oval and The Crane Lane all use the same beans but don't seem to make the coffee as well.

The Bierhaus on Popes Quay also does a good coffee as does Star Anise - next door to Cork Coffee Roasters

Bumping this to find if anyone knows where I could get an Aeropress in Cork? I have an urge to spend my Christmas Shekels. (We just got a Neff all in one machine that does grand coffee, but you can't really change the beans in it.)

Edit: or a moka or anything else I can make an individual, good single coffee with?

I'd be surprised to see an Aeropress in a shop anywhere but you'd get a moka in lots of places, try Mahers (Oliver Plunkett St.) or TK Maxx for that.

You can get the Aeropress from Badger&Dodo or CoffeeAngel in Ireland. B&D's website seems to be down at the moment but they tell you how to order on their Facebook.

    Here's the Aeropress on CoffeeAngel.

You can also get the Aeropress (or v60 and other gear) from Brock (Badger and Dodo) at his stall at the farmers' market in Douglas Court SC on Saturday mornings.

best coffee in Cork in order of personal preference...

1: Cafe Gusto on Washington Street (near Singers Corner) or on Lavitts Quay (near Clarion hotel)
2: Liberty Grill on Washington Street (owned by same people as Gusto)
3: Italee on Oliver Plunkett Street (Parnell Place end)
    4: My house ;)
    5: Butlers Cafe near GPO

Cork Coffee Roasters were relatively good the last time I was in the city. Their espresso was actually a little sweet and bright. They also had some filter coffee on a filtro shuttle, which was pleasant but didn't have any features that jumped out at me. The lads in there were sound as well. When I used to live in Cork though, I'd usually just get a french press in the Cornerhouse on coburg street. I didn't know anything about coffee then so I can't vouch for the quality (I used to drink it with the free chocolate bars they'd give you!), but twas a lovely place served by great people, so that matters for something. I remember Fergal would often come over and give free top ups of tea and coffee as well.
