Could anyone give some advice on this. I have an inspiron 1520 (XP) and just out of warranty. Not sure whats happened to it but each time I start the laptop it launches straight to Dell media player direct.

I have re-booted and select exit, but each time on booting, same occurs. Any attempt to go to Help or Settings/Exit and I get an error that I have micrsoft bit blocker enabled and then system shuts down exiting window.

Can anyone help! Have been googling and can find no simple solution!

Is it going through to Dell Media prior to windows boot.

You probably have a power button and a Dell Media button on the laptop? am i right?

I've heard that sometimes the button mapping for both of them can swap.

Try using the Dell Media button to power it on, see if the same issue occurs.

Yup ... Just press the key with the house on it.(The one that normally loads Media Direct)

    This should sort it.

Just remembered, had that problem with an XPS a few months ago

    No problem, glad to help.

The button mappings should restore to normal once windows has successfuly booted
