    Howdy chieftains,
I'm looking for a few pointers on the above .
I have bought plenty of stuff and never had a problem :)
However regarding selling i haven't a clue. I have some guitars and also pedals that i can't seem to shift and don't want to let them go for half nothing so i'm considering the ebay route. If any of you have any tips i'd be glad to hear them. Thanks

Only the obvious things (says the guy who has only ever sold one thing one ebay):
Be honest about any problems or defects
Loads of clear photos. Make sure the background is not distracting from the thing you're selling.
Too much description is better than not enough
Insist on shipping insurance (buyer pays)
Pack it up the way you'd like to receive it
If people ask questions be polite and professional in your reply no matter how feckin' stupid the question

How do i know how much it will cost to ship the item? ...is there a calculator?

And i was using adverts but no bites at all.

You weigh it, you measure the box, then you find couriers who will ship to wherever the buyer is from, then you calculate how much it will cost on these couriers websites.

Be aware though that if you are, for example, shipping a guitar abroad with an Post, the price will be extortionately high, especially when compared with the likes of DHL in Germany.

I sold a bunch of stuff previously on ebay and my advice is to set aside a Sat. afternoon in advance and do all the prework..

    - Take photo's
    - Package up the items for shipping
    - Get them weighed and work out the shipping costs (and insurance if required)
    - The put them up on eBay for sale

If they sell, then it's just a matter of adding an address label and taking to the post office.. If not, its easy to store them and relist later..

Make sure to get a few accepted payment methods sorted before listing, its one of my biggest annoyances when using Ebay when a seller doesn't accept all the normal payment methods.

The other thing is - most of the bidding takes place in the last few minutes of the auction so make sure your auction ends at a time when people are not too busy. Sunday afternoon seems to be popular.
