    Hi there

I bounced off a kerb on an angle while reversing out a driveway and have cracked the front panel of my ford escort 98. Can anyone tell me if there is any kind of small fix for this, or would I have to get the whole bumber replaced?? Could I do a patch up job and touch up paint? Thank you!

I think those bumpers are filled with foam and covered in thin plastic? very difficult to fix and more liable to damage compared with a regular plastic bumper.

Maybe take it to somewhere like Carcraft and see what they think, from what I remember tough, just filling and painting may be a waste of time as the bumpers are pretty flexible.

Depends on how heavy the damage is really. if it's a small crack it may be repairable.

You would really need to show us a picture of the damage.

If it is a fairly noticable crack where a chunk of the bumper is missing then most likely the bumper will have to be replaced. If it is colour coded then the new bumper will need to be sprayed. This will be expensive and uneconomical on a 1998 Escort.

The cheaper alternatives would be to live with it if is not too bad a crack or try and find a replacement bumper in a scrap yard from an Escort the same colour as your own one.

It's possible to repair cracked bumpers using a hot air tool and the correct plastic polymer welding rods, but it's not a DIY job and it's not cheap. Probaly be as well off looking for a suitable bumper from a scrap dealer and getting it resprayed, or simply buying a new one.
