Ricky Gervais' debut as a leading man is out in the USA today, and so far the reviews are good. Looks like a decent date movie, with plenty of Rom and Com.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Big weekend flop there, opened at #8 to just 5m. Maybe he's just not suited as a big screen leading man

Yeah from reading the premise it sounds like the sort of thing Ricky would satirise, not appear in. Still he won't be the last great comedian to take the money and run. Eddie Murphy gave the world Raw and Delirious and went on to make Pluto Nash.

Good cast with Greg Kinnear, Ricky Gervais and Tea Leoni

Is it a funnier less sad version of Ghost????

This film is alright, Gervais was quite suited to the role but does show his limitations as an actor more than once. Not a fan of his which didn't help.

Going to see it this Thursday.

Kermode give it the thumbs up, so it can't be all bad.

I was a little surprised Kermode liked it. I was going to steer well clear of it, but now my interest has been piqued.

Saw it last night, far more of an offbeat rom-com than anything else but I enjoyed it.

Thank fook Gervais is in it because he rescues what could've been an absolute stinker. Overall it's a decent aul flick with a few lol bits :D

Saw it today, it was quite funny.

Rickys reactions to things in the film are hilarious! It fizzled a bit towards the end but overall a good flick!

Thought this was a good and very funny first half let down by the second. It is one of those films which suffers from Hollywood's need to apply a formula to every film. As funny as some of the moments were, the second half was just painfully mawkish on occasion. And the ending was more subtle than the usual run to the airport malarky, but the final few lines were painful.

That said, Gervais does a good job (playing himself really), Teá Leoni is a more believable love interest than most and there are a few laughs, so its probably worthier than the vast majority of rom-coms. Just a shame the formula lets it down.
