What's your foundation?

What's your foundation and are you happy with it? I've been using L'Oreal Infallible foundation for about a year now, been with L'Oreal for years actually and it was fine but recently moved to Vichy Dermablend (only realised yesterday I was using the wrong product, it was tinted moisturiser but got the proper foundation yesterday, I can't read french lol) and it's only day two but I really like it. Good coverage, stays on all day, doesn't get too shiny (bit of powder here and there and it's fine) or dry my skin so so far so good.

So I went from L'Oreal Infallible €16 to Vichy Dermablend €21.

What's your foundation, price and are you happy with it?

Gosh X-Ceptional wear - Golden. Really nice colour. Only aroung 12euro! Bonus!

Prescriptives Flawless skin costs about 45-49 euro per 45ml bottle. I think it's worth it :) I love it! (I've a very very pale shade of skin and very delicate skin so a lot of other foundations just sit on my skin and leave a lovely tide line no matter what I do)

Armani Hydraglow in 4.5. Been using it for about three years now and still in love with it.

Everyday Minerals. $12, not including shipping. I always get the $50 kit that allows you to select 12 items, it's one of the best makeup deals I've ever heard of. I absolutely love their products, I'll never use anything else.

+ 1, I don't wear foundation every day, but I've tried loads over the years and the Everyday Minerals range is the only one I've been really happy with. I ordered a foundation, bronzer and eyeshadow the other day and it cost less than €22 including delivery. Their kits are great value too.

Ordering make up online a bit risky though? Especially trying to pick the shade of foundation?? This stuff sounds interesting, would like to try it.

I use Max Factor, not sure which shade, its ok, the best I have found anyway that suits my skin. I think it's about 15 euro. Most foundations run off me after an hour or so. I don't have oily skin or anything, so I don't know what the problem is.

Maybe the mosituriser you have on underneath is greasy Janey?
    You could try primer.

I recently bought a Max factor mouse foundation as it was actually as pale as me.
I think it is called Perfect illusion. It is totally crap, it doesn't cover anything and won't apply evenly.

I usually use Gosh, it is quite difficult for me to get foundtion, most brands are too dark.

Body Shop Oil-free foundation, cant remember how much it costs (i usually buy loads of stuff when i go into the place :o )
But i think it's about 25... totally worth it, i'm developing slight adult acne so really helps as it doesnt aggravate it. Although I only wear foundation once a week, every day I go for Nivea Tinted Moisturiser, better for my skin than wearing foundation every day and cheaper too!!

I use Simple's moisturiser, and tbh what ever is to hand, so I'll take that into consideration! Thanks!!!

Smashbox primer, dermalogica treatment foundation and Jane Iredale amazing base.

When I'm lazy and/or my skin is in good shape, i just wear the powder by itself- I love the stuff!!!

I wear Dior teint fluide or Chanel pro-lumiere with the Jane Iredale powder at night for that little bit extra coverage.

For you pale ladies like myself, Dermalogica do a good range of very light colours as do Dior and Chanel are very very good also.

All salons that do Dermalogica stock it. Its called treatment foundation, wouldn't give a great amount of coverage but the ingredients in it work well on sensitive skin and a little goes a long way. I like it, and I'm very pale so I find that the colour range is very good.

It looks very well on I think....and I have tried a serious number of foundations in my time!!!

Max Factor Lasting Performance, cheap n cheerful, been using it for years now.. I have uneven skin tone and it gives really good coverage.. I tried L'Oreal True Minerals on my hand last night and I really liked the texture so maybe I can be converted :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭missmatty

For 'good' wear: Prescriptives Virtual Matte (excellent for pale skin).

Others: Also trying to use up L'Oreal Infallible and Revlon Colorstay at the moment. Both pretty good too.

Thinking of trying one of the Dior/Chanel ones after these two. Also spent years wearing Max Factor Lasting Performance for day and loved it but started finding that they changed the colours (?)...

I got the bare escentuals starter kit a few months ago and i'm a convert! I went to stock up yesterday and couldn't believe the price of it for full size boxes...31.50 for the mineral veil and 37.50 for the foundation :( Is the Everyday Minerals as good as the bare escentuals? If so, what a bargain! I think I might be going to ebay for my next batch of minerals, but I was in dire need of new foundation yesterday. But I love the stuff. Won't be going back to liquid foundation again!

Everyone I've spoken to who has used both BE and EM likes EM better. I haven't used BE, but my sister has and she said the coverage is better with EM and it doesn't cake up on her. Also, apparently BE makes some people itchy.

Its amazing isn't it!! I was in House of Fraser walking by Benefit, and the girl stopped me and asked me if I'd like to try some product, and I thought, argh this girl saw me coming (cos I can't resist make up), and she used it on me, and I sweat, best purchase ever!!!

Wow, I must give that a try so! Thanks a mil for the info! Don't want to take over the thread, but if I get the $50 set, what products would you recommend? I have the kabuki brush and concealer brush already with BE, I assume they'll be ok with this. There's a good bit of choice for the foundations colours...I know you haven't used bare escentuals, but I like "medium" (but not medium beige) in that. Maybe someone knows which colour might be close to that with EM? What a bargain if it's even comparable to BE. I assume that all the mineral products have the same "so pure you don't need to take it off" attitude?

I love BE at the moment, but it's so pricey. I used to use Estee Lauder double wear, and I sometimes wear that at night still as I think the coverage is that bit better.

Hey, no problem! And again, I haven't used BE so I really don't know if EM is that much better, I've just heard it is. The brushes will be fine with other powders. Erm, you might want to start out with the sample kit. You only have to pay for shipping, although I don't know if that would be worth it or not to Ireland. I always use the lightest of any available foundations so I have no idea which one medium would be. Their foundation is a bit confusing, because there are several different kinds, Matte, Semi-Glo, Original Glo, and Intensive. Semi-Glo and Original Glo aren't right for me because I'm prone to shine. Matte is matte, as the name would suggest, and intensive provides more coverage. I go between matte and intensive. But your best best would probably be to order the sample kit in a few of the formulas and perhaps some different shades so you can be sure you're ordering the proper one for you in the full size. You get three foundations, a blush, and a concealer. I like the Pick Me Up Pink concealer, although it isn't really a concealer. It's basically a face brightener. Also, their customer service is fabulous, so you could always e-mail them, I'd think they'd know the shade conversions between theirs and BE.

Yep, you can sleep in EM as well, although I don't because it scares me!

Whoa, long, rambly and OT. If there's anything else I can help you with you can PM me!:D

I've been using a MAC compact that was €38 last time I got it, but I don't wear foundation during the day just if I'm going out so I think it lasts me a lot longer than most people. I'm nearly out of it though, so I'm open to trying new things!! I feel like a bit of a makeup novice - like I said I don't wear foundation much, I love eye makeup but am really bad with things like lipstick and blusher, haven't a clue what I'm doing!

I use Dior Airflash in 200.. Me loves it! It's cool the way it sprays on aswell.
It cost €37 and I love the colour of it.

And I use L'Oreal True Match powder.. It gives a lovely powdery finish but not caked on.

Can anyone recommend a long-wearing foundation that comes in a super pale shade? The Double Wear one I use doesn't come in 'snow white', lol. It's for the odd day I'm not wearing fake tan.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭Dolbert

I use Benefit Non-Fiction foundation with Georgia Peach powder, it's a great warm look for pale skin, whenever I wear it I get heaps of compliments about how great and 'glowing' my skin looks :)

Prescripitves do a stick foundation called AnyWear foundation. Lasts for up to 8 hours. They do lots of shades and a great range of different foundations.

    http://www.prescriptives.com/templates/products/multiproduct.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY14704

There's also this one by Make-up Forever. They usually have my shade and I'm ghost like! :Dhttp://www.makeupforever.com/catalogue/foundations/mat-velvet-matifying-foundation-make-up/12-1/281.html

Laura Mercier do pale shades but I'm not too familiar with their foundations. (concealers rock!!)

L'Oreal and Maybelline do long lasting foundations but they normally are orange based. You could get lucky though!!

    I'd second the prescriptives

Maybe DoubleWear by Estee Lauder, it lasts forever. I'm pale and it worked for me, but I don't know how pale you are so.

They have a long wearing foundation.
It is definitely worth a try at 12 euro.

another Everyday minerals user here..love it..will prob never use anything else..$12 per foundation and lasts aaaaaaaaaaaaaages..

I used to use MAC select NC20 (or 15, i cant remeber). good and pale..prefer wearing the minerals as it doesnt have that heavy makeup-made up feeling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 952 ✭✭✭bills

Yeah i use the everyday minerals too- the best thing about it is it takes one minute to apply. I find it doesnt need as much blending as regular foundation. Only thing is I picked a very pale shade which is fine during the day but at night I would wear a different foundation.
