What would happen if necessities were free?

Ok rather lame question but it's one that could solve a lot of problems. What would be so bad if the whole world was to make necessities free, you know things we need in life such as food, clothes and alcohol(just kidding). We have third world countries in deprived conditions and famines while we can happily sit at home and eat our big steaks and watch our reasonably priced tv. So what ould be so bad to make things like food and clothes free and other necessities. Now i know business wise it's a failure because many companies will lose profits, but maybe there can be a fine line between a necessity and a luxury. Like maybe a simple pair of jeans or trousers could be a necessity because it has no common value, but maybe stylish jeans from Levies could cost some money. Maybe simple food products such as cabage and beef could be free and things like Pizza and pasta can be classed as luxuries. I don't know is it too hard to get an equal world where everybody has enough to survive? no more hunger, no more poverty, Or has greed gotten to us all that a simple food product is more valuable then a person's life. I end this by saying Chaos is the way of the future. Peace out:cool:

If you remove an item from being a necessity then it will be replaced with another item. People always want more than they have. A lot of current things that are classified as necessities could easily be done without.

I'd make all the luxuries free and make the bare minimum necessities costly.

I now have that Jungle Book theme in my head.

Who'd make the jeans? Who'd farm / prepare / package the beef and spinach? Would they work for free? It all has to come from somewhere, so someone would have to be working at a loss . . .

Made in China - they want to be their own little communist country, so let them. They can still make all our stuff, though not milk, clearly.

Some politicians would decide what was a necessity and what was not - and they would screw us!

All we'd get would be free dessicated turds, and the only one approving of this would be Fluttering Bantam.

If all necessities were free and widely available, then It'd be like that cruise ship in WALL-E. Everybody would just turn into big fat bored detached messes..

Then somebody would invent the USB force feedback codpiece and write a nifty bit of script that links it to porn... BANG.. The entire human race dies out in a generation.

Yore ma's free and widely available.

Cats would chase dogs, and the End would begin. That's a scientific fact for you.

If we got rid of clothes then the lil kids in India would need to find something new to make!

If they were free then,we would spend money on what we WANT to buy.

I think you're getting mixed up with the 'why can't the world be naked?' thread. The clothes would still be needed, just they'd be free.

If they were free...ehh..people would have no need to work so..the ones who did work would be the ones who get the luxuries..

    makes sense.

before they got their luxuries though they'd have to earn enough to get everyone else their necessities first (otherwise no one would have their necessities). So then they'd be... eh, PAYE workers.

Many necessities are free - air, warmth, sunshine to make vitamin D, an ozone layer to prevent cancer, rainwater for crops. ye have it too good already

I'd like some necessities to be free, like sanitary products, but then they would all just come in Government Standard Issue size, colour and design, like those government specs people got in the olden times.

Maybe necessaities could be tax free instead...?
