AVI File Problem

Has anyone come across this before?

I downloaded 7 tv episodes in avi format from a torrent application.

    Episode 1, 2, 4 & 5 work fine and 3, 6 & 7 don't.

They are all 350mb in size. For the ones that do work, they are compressed in xvid codec and audio mp3 as seen in Properties>Summary.

I can't check the summary on the other ones at all, they are confirmed virus/spyware free by latest AVG scanner.

I get the following message in WMP 11 which I have installed codecs on a long time ago and its worked fine all the time. Doesn't open in Quiktime or Nero Home Studio either.

I'm at a loss as to why they don't work.

One thing worth mentioning was that when downloading I just done two at a time instead of the 7, basically just deselected the ones I didn't want to do in bitlord then when the ones I downloaded where completed I deselected those ones and and selected the ones I needed.

Also does anyone know what the best codec pack is, a few I've been looking up are apparently riddled with viruses.

    Thanks.
    Keith:confused:

Without question: K-lite codec pack. I use it everywhere I go and use it for loads of fixes on people machines. Get the full version. This WILL solve your problem. They will be played through a version of an updated Classic Media Player which is faster, uses less resources and it's very stable.

    Found here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm
    or
    here: http://www.codecguide.com/download_mega.htm

    Info:
About the K-Lite Codec Pack K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of VFW/ACM codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your audio and movie files.
With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even several less common formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack has a couple of major advantages compared to other codec packs:
    * It it always very up-to-date with the newest and/or best components.
    * All components have been carefully selected for specific purposes. It is not just a random bunch of stuff thrown together.
    * It is very user-friendly and easy to use.
    * The installation is fully customizable, meaning that you are able to only install those components that you really want.
    * For some formats a choice can be made during installation between different filters. This allows you to tweak the pack to your own specific needs and preferences.
    * Uninstallation removes everything that was installed by the pack. Including all registry keys.
    * It is extremely easy to make a fully customized unattended installation with the integrated wizard.
    * It has been very well tested. The pack doesn't contain any conflicting or buggy codecs.
    * It tries to avoid potential conflicts with other codecs already installed on your computer.
    * The pack is able to detect broken codecs and filters on your system, and helps you to remove them.
    * It is a very complete package, containing everything you need to play your movies.
    * This pack has a huge user base. This means that problems are found and resolved quickly.
    * There are different packages. From small to extra-large.
    * The pack is suitable for both novice and expert users. There are four versions of the K-Lite Codec Pack: Standard contains everything you need to play all the most commonly used audio and video formats. This package should be enough for the average user. Full supports even more audio and video formats. It also includes decoders for several lossless audio formats. It has encoding support for various video formats.
...and you have my word it's virus free.

+1 for K-Lite full version , though I generally de-select to instal WMP Classic .

VLC player is equally good as it plays pretty much anything you can throw at it and also comes with an extensive codec pack .

Were the episodes encoded by the same group/source ? If so , i'd say it's more likely to be an incomplete file than a codec issue . Try redownloading if a codec pack doesnt work . Also .... Bitlord ? You'd do well to change your client . uTorrent is universally accepted by trackers whereas Bitlord is banned by many .

Cheers lads I got the K-Lite Codec pack. Nice and comprehensive...

Now I'm getting the error message 'Cannot render the file'.

Regarding encoding by the same source (from page I downloaded from):
This batch contains Breaking Bad Season 1 - Episodes 1 thru 7. First 2 episodes are released by DSR, the rest are released by LOL

Strange because some of the ones after episode two work fine.

I've put affected episodes back into the folder where they were downloaded to and selected them in bitlord to download, it's 150kb/s down but there's no new files created and the ones I put there are the same size.
They seem to be sort of incomplete but the file icon is the same as completed ones.
Had problems with utorrent before, I couldn't get a good down speed but I can on bitlord, must try utorrent again.

"Cannot render the file" means there is a file(s) faulty.
Sent you a pm by the way.
