Cheap plasmas vs cheap LCDs

In general which would be better? A mate of mine bought a cheap 42 inch 1080p LCD a few months back and TBH DVDs looks pretty poor on it and the games on his PS3 look like they could do with some serious anti-aliasing, but I can't say if it's down to the games or the TV. How would a similarly priced 1080p Plasma compare?

Whats your definition of cheap? One mans cheap could be anothers expensive.

How do the DVDs look poor? Whats the make, model of the TV? Whats the colour setting at?
