Depends on a lot of things.. Do they want exclusive pics? Is it national?
Whatever you do, do it quick as someone else will have pics soon and the pics wont be fresh..

Guy in Irish Times wanted them for free :(

Just seen some on RTE1...I have actual pictures of wreckage

i'd make it quick cause they might have a film crew/press heading there and your pics won't be worth much :(

All roads are closed.....its being cordoned off for crash investigation.....I suppose people will have to walk there.

Well if someone knows there are no pics of it they will!Cause they know its worth it,Surely you can say you'll invoice them at a later stage

At the end of the day they will pay money for it but do you think its a good pic?
    Is it high enough megapixels?
Im sure i read somewhere its around £40 for a half page print
    Not sure about hee though

I would say 80 euros per image printed in a national paper, 100 for use on a news site and 200 if shown on rte news. as said above, get t em in quickly and invoice later. best to send in a selection

The Independent group pay €85 per image. If you haven't sent it in by now then you are too late as they will be going to press. You can be sure they have their own pics by now.

In future just send them in straight away. You can invoice them when they print them. FOr pics like this you're aren't really gonna make excessive money as they are only really news photos.

However if you have a pic of bertie stashing money somewhere then I would imagine it would be a bidding war!! :)

I reckon its best to get them in asap and bill them later, you will get paid just how much is the question, if you dont send them in you wont get paid.

I know of one poster here who has the news desks plagued at this stage!

not to drag the thread OT, but does anyone have a current list of newspaper/news agency/TV news contacts ?

I have one but it seems that most of them are out of date - the last time I sent, I got a load of NDRs back

    TIA!

No not you , the lad I am talking about was at a fire in Artane, The Bomb on Leeson St and a collapsed crane at the point, I believe the Police are treating as a suspect at this stage.

You had a Helicopter crash aswell Ballyman did you not! I had a bomb incident in Tallaght and as far as I am concerned get the pics in and talk money later, would you agree?

Haha, thats called being a brilliant news photographer and developing a keen sense of a breaking story.

My legal representatives will deal with your defamation of my good character, McNally.

So Mylow, what did you do with them?

The key to selling images is speed.. Get them to the news desks as quickly as possible.. As the guys said, negotiate later.

i can hardly blame him for not offering good money for pics which he had not seen.

Well some guy called Paul Connor really cleaned up, he had great pictures which appeared in every single Irish newspaper today.. Is this you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭Trojan911

For future reference, ring all the picture desks now and get quotes, get to know the person in charge, they will normally take your name & contact number. Different papers pay different money. The prices range from €60 - €150 for your bog standard images i.e. Road Traffic Collisions etc. These prices can be one image or a set, depending on the paper.

Some papers will pay half the price if the image is used again (royalties), however you have to buy the paper to see if your image were published. You then will invoice them when it appears.

The helecopters incident may command more as it is unique.

That's what I have done & the picture desks are very helpful, because they want your images, only if they are newsworthy.

    Hope that helps.

Was passing by around 7:00 or so and took a quick cameraphone pic, but I was actually wondering myself at the time how much you'd get for an exclusive pic similar to the one on all the papers today.

    Note to self:

    That's 2 chopper crashes in 12 months captured around here;

    1. I won't be getting in a helicopter any time soon
    2. I won't be meeting anyone from this forum any time soon in case one lands on my head.
    :)

its a bit late now but i hear its around 70-150 euro for 2 photos. i know someone that got 150 for two photos of a shooting last week. but they were taken with quality cameras, so they were decent photos.sounds like good easy money to me :)!

While they keep moving all is OK.

It's when they stop that the fun begins.
