2 litre minerals bottles!?

I was just curious about this one; anybody know how long 2 litre bottles of fizzy drinks have been available in this country? I get the feeling that they are a relatively recent innovation here, perhaps since the seventies? And also, how often would a 2 litre bottle of coke or 7-up have found its way into a household years…

I believe the 500ml bottles only came out in the early 90's. Before that we had supercans. Much better IMO. Don't really like the taste off plastic bottles.
