Why do you take photographs?

For me I cant really put a finger on why I do.I jsut enjoy takign them and want to improve. Bout the rest of ye? How long ye been snapping??

I started of in Videoing gigs but once I got into Photography I just got hooked.
I like you want to better myself but I also love capturing the moment which in my view a Vid Camera can't.
I love the PP even though I'm shocking at it...and I've even got to the stage where I check Pixie regularly to see the latest pics my contacts have up, I love learning from other peoples pics, I also enjoy here..no really!
I love finding out about the latest Cameras and upgrading! Love most Photography forums/sites
I always read reviews on various lenses too, tis becoming a sad state of affair, I bring my Camera everywhere with me just in case that moment occurs........

yeah I take my camera most places too now....givin up reading about new camera's and lenses these days cos I cant buy any!!!!

If people will forgive me for providing a serious answer ( ) I do it because it's a challenge. Just like everything else I do. It's interesting to try and push yourself in photography, to play the delicate game of wanting to improve and be serious but also wanting to not be too critical of yourself and still enjoy it.

At the end of the day, taking a good photograph makes me very happy. Other people might look at it and think it is not original but the simple fact is that it will likely be the first time that I have taken a photograph like that. At the end of the day, everything that I do from painting, writing, to training and traveling is nothing more than an extension of self. Who I feel I am. I use these things to both portray the way I view things and also to challenge my own perceptions.

In short it's just another test that I enjoy.

I'm 49 and have owned some sort of camera since I was 12. I have some snaps going back to the early 70s, so while I wouldn't have had an SLR or suck, I've always had an interest.

Since I went with a DSLR earlier this year, I find it to be extremely relaxing and enjoy making sure the finished product is up to scratch (making loads of mistakes along the way:D).
