Should I exercise through the pain?

Just a quick question. I posted this in my food diary but thought it might be better answered here. I go to the gym 3 times a week so I'm not completely inactive. I was at a Body Solid class on Tuesday night, which consisted of squats and lunges etc. with weights, but I'm in bits after it! Yesterday was bad enough but today is even worse. I'm thinking I used muscles I don't normally use in my normal gym routine. I'm just wondering if it's ok for me to go to the gym tonight? Or should I wait until the pain goes away? I don't want to do damage. My gym routine is 4 upper body weights machines and then 45 minutes of cardio. Thanks.

Depends on the pain. But if its normal DOMs pain then yes, its fine to exercise through them. I find that some light exercise reduces the amount of pain I feel. Make sure you stretch properly.

You are just a bit stiff after the workout I'd imagine. If it was actual pain you would know about it. Pain = possible injury = bad = don't exercise. Stiffness/DOMS = ok = light exercise (or even heavy exercise if you're able for it.

Cheers. It's definitely DOMS not injury so I'll go ahead and exercise as normal. Thanks.

A bit of exercise will increase blood flow and help with the DOMS.

Generally I go with; if the DOMS eases off as your warm up then plough on thru, but if you're still mega stiff/in a lot of pain then just take it easy.

depends where the DOMS is really id consider not training if the DOMS was in the lower back, if not your fine to train IMO, getting the blood flowing through a muslce is prob the fastest way to get rid of DOMS i find

That's more likely to be a strain then anything else though.
