Racing Car

Last night I had to run an errand which took me through one of Dublin's less fashionable suburbs, shall we say. Naturally, I had my foot down a bit as I wanted to get the hell out of there. But then I rounded a bend and found that there was a bunch of teenage kids just standing in the middle of the road, blocking it. Whatever they were doing, I have no idea, but I hit the brakes, then quickly realised that I wasn't going to be able to stop on time. The kids all froze and just stood there staring. It was obvious to everyone that I was going to hit them. I swerved to the right as hard as I could at the last minute, but ended up hitting one of the kids - the one furthest over to the right.

I did the right thing, and called the cops and the ambulance etc. I admitted fault and gave my insurance details. Luckily, the kid wasn't badly damaged, he just had a few bruises and was a bit shaken, but here is the issue:

All of the kids except the one I hit were white. The kid I hit was black. Now, all of the above happened in about a second and a half, so the swerve I made was a purely instinctive, subconscious decision. But is it possible that, subconsciously, I knew I was going to hit someone and chose to avoid hitting anyone of my own nationality? I have never considered myself a racist. I have worked with Africans and have given them (entry level) jobs and found them perfectly adequate. I have even had dinner in a black man's house.

But, is it possible that, when push comes to shove and issues of life and death are at stake, we would all choose to protect those that we are similar to at the expense of those who are different to us?

You couldn't be racist. You had dinner in a black man's house so technically you're a wigger! Is your car German perhaps? :D

Well you must have Schumacher's reflexes to decide who to kill in that much time:D I think its a coincidence. Either way you were driving too fast.

If you were subconciously being racist you would have sped up to hit the black kid!

In fairness, I only did that once. Dinner was served in a big bowl on the floor. We all had to sit cross legged on the floor around the bowl and dig in with spoons. After dinner the host started smoking hash and listening to reggae. I don't think I can be blamed for thinking that once was enough.

I've got a Vauxhall Viva with a vinyl roof.

A can of tar remover from Halfords should get rid of those black marks on your car ;)

    Chris Rock says:
if you know how many black people have been guests in your house, you have a problem
I assume the reverse is true, if you know how many times you've been a guest in a black person's house then you also have a problem :D

Only kidding, if you did it subconsciously that's some, great reflexes it has.

If he came in through the windscreen I'd have him charged with breaking and entering (prob trying to nick your radio)...

If not and he bounced off, have him done for leaving the scene of the crime (after trying to nick your radio)??

How can ya trully know how many have been in your house when the majority are "middle of the night" unwanted guests?

damaged is a word more suited to inanimate objects...."HURT" would have been a better word perhaps.... actually, scrap that...damaged is fine :D

Clearly you should have used the excuse you couldn't see him as it was dark. It's not like he'd be smiling when a madman in a car is coming at him.

I should have called this thread "Race Car" or "Race / Car"
Is there any way of changing the title of it?

Regardless of skin colour there's no excuse for listening to reggae.

Why not just start the same thread with a different name in another forum?
Or even re-register with a new name and post it under a new identity, Stez Styx, if that is your real name....

I could do with a few of them. How much did you pay them? Are they still working for you? Can you give me any numbers?

I gave a few of them a chance and they were bloody hopeless. I told one to wear formal clothes, and he came in wearing some sort of tribal gear. I asked him what the hell he was doing, this wasn't fancy dress, and he said that it was formal wear in his culture, and threatened to sue me for constructive dismissal.

if you turn the white sheet around the other way you can see much more clearly through the two cut out holes thus avoiding hitting the jam boy

I was trying to be polite. I'll send you a private message with the real story.

I'd say you've hit the nail on the head there..

Garda: "Tell me where you got the Marajuana?"

Innocent smoker: "I got it from one of the black lads in the city"

Grarda: "Right, don't let me catch you here again"

Innocent smoker: "You won't garda, I just ran his kid over"

    Works every time;)
