HI I have NTL in the house that we live in at the moment and very happy with it but moving house to Sallins. NTL said that they are in the area. We dont want a land line and they said that we need a land line (Eircom ) connetion coming into the house. Is this true? We dont have a land line in our house at the moment?

No it isn't. Sky require a landline or a deposit. I've never heard of UPC wanting this. It could be another way to keep business away or more likely they are trying to sell you their phone package.

I have all my services, Phone, Internet and TV, with NTL and cancelled my eircom phone line. I reckon Paulm is right, they are living up to their nickname "Eircon". All of NTL's services are on cable so no phone line required.

There are two possibilities, where you might still need a landline:

    1) Where UPC donit have cable and instead deliver the TV service over MMDS (wireless), no phone or BB possible.

    2) Where UPC haven't upgraded the cable to support TV or broadband yet, TV only.

Everywhere else you can get rid of your Eircom phone line and rental and get TV, phone and BB all from UPC.

Actually you don't even need to take the phone service from UPC if you don't need it (many people just use their mobile instead).

But that doesn't explain why you need to get a landline, unless OP wanted triple play.

Just insist you're not getting a landline, you don't want a landline and you've used their services without a landline before. You can also tell them they can have your business or not but you are not getting a landline.

UPC don't offer cable cable in Sallins AFAIK. The TV is MMDS delivered. Therefore trile play as you may know it in an NTL area would not be available.

They're probably talking about Chorus being your call provider on the landline just like eircom/BT etc.
