How do I hit this club

    Hello all,

I'm an average golfer who just bought a Taylor Made r7 draw rescue hybrid with 22' loft.
I can hit every club in my bag to varying degrees of success but this one has me stumped.
Off the tee, from the rough, from the fairway, various places in stance - I just can't hit the bloody thing.
I mean it barely leaves the ground even off the tee.
I feel like I'm doing something simple wrong but can't figure out what.
    Please help ??

    thanks

i find that you should hit your rescue clubs more like an iron shot rather than like a wood. thats really the only bit of advise i can give you!

I had the same problem earlier in the summer with new clubs. Bought the exact same 3 wood to match my driver and hit it very poorly for a week or so but gradually got used to it and now I love it.

I think it just takes time to get the hang of some clubs. I wouldn't say altering your swing or making some kind of exagurated move with that specific club is the way to go.

A few weeks after the 3 wood I got the rescue - again, same model and shaft as driver and 3 wood. Same story. Didn't hit it well. Took it to the range and stuck with it for a week or so and now hit it great.

Agree with SS, I think a lot of us have had initial problems with a similar club.

However, word of caution, I once bought a similar club with a silly flexy shaft and had exact same results, I had to stop using it!

    thanks for the replies guys

This one doesn't have a mad flex in the shaft to be fair
I think I'll take your advice and go to the range and bang away till I get used to it.

Just out of interest...the club I bought is best supposed to be used in what siutations ?
I mean what exactly should it be rescuing me from ? :)

Can they also be used off the tee ?

    thanks

I find it most useful in the rough as opposed to a long iron in dodgy grass lengths... Sometimes, like to fall back on the irons though....

Works from the tee also especially if you get comfortable and know the distance range from different lies/tee....

I think someone on here can hit them out of long bunkers??!

I guess my starting point should be the tee and see if I can get comfortable from there.

Playing it more like an iron was mentioned on here.

So I'm taking that to mean not as far forward in stance as a wood and not as sweeping a swing either.

    What about teeing height ?

I have the r7 Rescue Dual 19deg. I never had a problem with it. I would use it from the tee, fairway and light rough and even around the greens. As for tee height, as Paulusmaximus said, treat it like a long iron so tee it up the same as you would your 4 or 5 iron. It will be easier to use than a 3 iron which has roughly the same loft. Just make a nice smooth swing and the club will do the rest.

    and even around the greens

What the hell did you use if for around the greens ? :)

Use it like a putter when the ball is sitting down in fringe around the green. The club head shape makes it more effective than using an iron or putter which can snag in the grass more easily.

    interesting...I must try that

Yeah I've posted about that before... Grip down on the shaft, play it in the centre(ish) of your stance and use a putting type stroke. I 'feel' the shot about the same strength as if i were using my putter. The ball pops up nicely to clear the rubbish and rolls out well.
It's a good shot to practice a bit because it can be very handy once every few rounds, particularly if you struggle at chipping...

I have the same club and quite like it.

I usually try and use it for cutting the ball as it is set up for a slight draw anyway.

So I aim a bit left of target and just try and fade the shot aggresively.
Since its so lofted you wont slice it (too much!).

I did give a friend a few tries of it and he couldnt hit it at all..he topped it..hit it low..generally made a balls of it.

He was about 6 foot 4 though and Im 5 foot 7 so maybe that had something to do with it :)

Use your rescue clubs as you would your 5/6 irons. The shafts are shorter than woods and so, are easier to hit. Place the ball just forward of centre in your stance and hit down on the back of the ball instead of trying to sweep it. When you get the hang of it you wont want to hit anything else! :D
