Hi Guys, does anyone know where i can get boots/shoes reheeled in Galway city? I used to go to that guy in the Headford Rd SC but its all closed down now so that only leaves Mister Minit in the Eyre Sq SC which id like to avoid, firstly coz its awkward to have to drive into town, but also because anytime i go in there he spends a good 10mins telling me how my boots need new soles as well! Drives me mad!!! Anyway my two favourite pairs of boots are making awful sounds at the moment so need re-heeling asap and so if anyone could let me know about a suitable place that would be great, obviously not somewhere really expensive either. :) Thanks!

There is / was a deaf & dumb bloke in Old Mervue, behind the drycleaners/butchers.

Not sure if he's still there but is work is top quality.

    +1

Go up the Monivea Rd from the Huntsman towards Eircom. Go straight through the Crossroads where Thermo King is located. After the traffic lights there are a load of green trees on your left. There are two parallel roads on the right hand side. Take either of these and the shops are located straight ahead.

Mr. King the Shoemaker is on the Right Hand Side.

Theres yer man in Mervue, James Heffernan on Sea road, and the dude in Shantalla.

James Heffernan is away for a month from Sept 21st.

    Mr Mint are useless.

Mervue guy is good but expensive

Shantalla guy is RIDICULOUSLY expensive, neither rhyme nor reason to the mans prices.

James Heffernan is expensive also, but slightly more reasonable than the others, and seems to be a bit more inventive....ie hes good at fixxing stuff that another cobbler would say cant be fixed. He does shoes stitching aswell which not all of them do.

I love shoes, and look after them, so a cobbler is always a good friend of mine. Have to say I think the prices up here are ludicrous though. Irks me to have to pay it knowing how cheap they are in Kerry( and just as good!!!)

But, anyways, excuse my rant. I'd wholeheartedly recommend James Heffernan. He is deaf and dumb also but very easy to deal with, and does a great job!

+1 for James on Sea Road (right up opposite the Jes church).
    He really knows his stuff.

(But what's going on ... a city the size of Galway, only three decent shoe-repairers, none of 'em in the city-centre, and two of 'em with hearing-impairments. Seriously weird.)

I agree with the -1 for the folks in Corbett court, too. They're fast, and fine for really simple stuff, but they don't understand why to do things, and that really matters for some shoe repairs. For key-cutting, go to the locksmith almost immediately downstairs from them.

I pretty much had frequent-flyer miles from the good shoe repair guy back home, really miss having someone like that so accessible here.

The thinking was years ago to give people who were deaf and dumb a trade, like shoe repair or tailoring, so they would have a source of income that wasn't reliant on them being able to hear and speak. Theres a deaf tailor on Galway too, and there are deaf cobblers and tailors all over the country.

    Good idea really.

Well he was still there when I lived around the corner a year and a half ago. Go straight up Shantalla road, past Cookes shop. Take the first right and he's half way along there in a tiny wee shed at the top of Willow Park. Don't think he's open on Mondays, and he closes for lunch. That guy kept my shoes from falling apart for 2 year, god bless him. (I am a destroyer of shoes)

Perhaps it would be better to just use the word Deaf instead of Deaf & Dumb?

    Cheers. ;)

    I didn't either.

Less of the rolleyes though- it was a genuine error and not meant to cause insult. Ignorance on my part, but not intentionally so, just to be clear.
