To add to Pigheads comment, they could be exes due to a mutual breakup / one of ye had to go abroad to work and a long term relationship was just not a viable option.

I've only ever had one girlfriend, she'll be an ex in a few weeks when she goes abroad. Right now, I'd say I'd take her back, but things could be totally different between us in a year so who knows...

Depends.

Well why are they an ex? Everyone's been with someone they weren't 'compatible' with before, but sometimes people break up for reasons that at the time make sense but later realise are pretty dumb on both parts. Long distance, work/college stress, things like that.

Only thing I'd say is, if someone's an ex, then something did go wrong, so even if you'd take them back, and there'd be the odd one I'd think about a yes for, you'd have to at least work out the outstanding issues that effected you.
