Torn muscle.

I am in agony. I am sure i have torn a muscle down the right hand side of my side and back. Dont know the name of the muscle. It snapped like an elastic band when reaching down with my hand. This is 4 weeks on and still no ease from the pain. I can only lie on my side (left) at night, although i wake myself up by trying to move onto my back or to cuddle my OH but lasts only up to 1 minute on that side as its too sore. It feels like a lump at the right kidney area. Cant sit, stand or lie down in comfort.
Is there anything i can do to help?
Trying for a baby so dont want to take medication.

Don't mean to be unhelpful - but get to a GP.

I head to my Physio with things like this and take their advise on refering on ( I suffer from sports injuries in the same type of area's ) but if it's going on 4 weeks get to a Doc and have it checked out.

Your post is helpful thanks . I injured it at work and the physio said the same thing ... go to your GP. Sounds a bit selfish but i really dont want to go as i have been on tablets for other things and now off them to try and start a family. Read on the net that surgery is needed. Think that scared me. But if you can imagine, on left side you can feel the muscle but on the right theres just ribs and difficult to move my body at night to change bed positions. Each time its OW! OW! Plus the price of just seeing a GP, puts me off.
If i have to , i'm on annual leave next fortnight so you never know i may have to go then.

Have you torn the same muscle?

wibblebee - to be honest you should probably go sooner than that - or go to one of the VHI swiftcare clinics etc.

I have torn muscles plenty of times and they are great at repairing themselves and I certainly feel a lot better after just two or three days.

Pain is the bodys reaction to something wrong, and it's totally abnormal for it to be going on this long.

WRT to the cost of the GP visit - I know my GP has a sign up that says that it's the practices view that no one should be denied medical treatment for financial reasons and to just speak to the GP. Don't be embarressed by asking for help.

Edit - I'm not sure if I have ever done the same muscle, but I have had similar symptoms with body position in bed etc. That was something with my neck but complicated with muscles down my arms and back.
I appriciate you are trying to get pregnant, but if your body is in distress - like the pain is indicating - it will defend and repair itsself first then worry about everything else.

I really think you should concentrate on getting healthy first.

Chances are the only tablets will be painkillers...

Oh - and the Internet is a great resource - but it's not *your* doctor.

I have torn, hyper-extended, pulled, disclocated a lot of things and after years of giving my body abuse through sports, only now are we talking about anything invasive - and that's if I want to continue.

Thanks you have spelt it out to me plain and simple.
I guess i will have to go to the docs. Its just so sore.
Seen a physio at my work and she said to use cold compresses and stay clear of heat pads. Cold Compresses help to some extent but only for a short period.
Ok i will go ... working all day tomorrow and 8-4 friday so will have to be Saturday.
    Cheers hun x

I glad that's the call you made.

I'm a firm believer that if you want to do something it will work out better than being dragged along or being forced.

Let us know how you get on
