Laptop volume going to the mixer?

When connecting the laptop to the mixer (either from sound card or headphone jack) what volume should be used?

Should the laptop volume be up full or not? And then adjusted with the mixer keeping out of the red.

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Steady

    What soundcard are you using?
    Onboard / Usb / Firwire..

I use traktor, and have 3 channels coming out of my Audio 8 DJ Soundcard to the (DJM600) mixer.

On traktor I have the main volume set for between -2 / -3 and use the mixer then to compensate.

Hope that is off some help.

If you are using a USB pre amp the volume should be at its minimum from both the laptop and the pre amp going into the mixer. The PK should not be in the red on the main mixer as can do some serious damage as well as distortion if its up too high.
