Backing Track

Hi guys, I'm trying to do a backing track to Laura Marling's My Manic and I. I tried using Audacity to strip out the vocal by splitting the stereo track and inverting the right channel, centre panning the tracks, but it didn't work the way the track was mixed.

Anyone have any other suggestions for stripping the vocal, leaving only the instrumental?

I already asked this in the Audio-Video editing forum, here's what I tried from that, unfortunately without much success

If there is reverb or delays on the vocal you are donald ducked, i have only got this to work if the vocal is bone dry, but you will still get some bleed and the track will be in mono.....

.......unless you phase out the mono backing track with the mono full mix take the resulting vocal in mono and phase that out with the stereo full mix. But you will still get some bleed......

Thanks but as I'm sure you've guessed that isnt working!

Are there any other routes for easy backing track arrangement for dummies?

    Hiya,

Check out vocal cancellation plugins - there's lots out there. They work really well (that was even 10 years ago)
